Yes, we teachers do have some benefits in the form of lots of time off...which makes up somewhat for the lousy pay! LOL

Thank you very much for your kind words, Travis. And you too have brought some well-researched and interesting facts into the exchange, even if might disagree on their application. The important thing is that we have kept it civil and courteous, and don't take disagreement personal. As someone smart once said, if you surround youself with people who always agree with you, then you never learn anything! :-)

I seem to recall reading the former book at one time, and SEEMS like I have heard of the latter. I know that Seguin cast his lot with the Texicans during the Texas Revolution, but didn't he later return to Mexico...?

LOL The War Between the States has always been a subject of interest to me. In turn, I really don't know all that much about truly early Texas history (that is, prior to when Stephen F. Austin founded the first colony). The Texas Revolution though has always been one I enjoyed reading about. Have you ever read "Duel of Eagles" by Jeff Long? It is very much "revisionist" history and fairly "anti-Texican" in my opinion, on the Battle of the Alamo. However, no doubt it is well researched and gives some perspective from the Mexican point of view that a lot of "traditional" Texas history on the subject have left out.

Yes, the oil boom of the early 20th Century was one of those things, like the "cattle boom" after the "Civil War" which definitely had the effect of distinguishing Texas some from the other states of the former Confederacy.

Enjoyed it Travis, and I would say the original topic has pretty much run its course in terms of both of us stating our cases! LOL However, feel free to drop me a personal e-mail anytime as it is always fun to share/discuss Texas history and culture with another interested in the same. Besides, if we don't take it to e-mail, we will soon have this thread of ours taking up half the Message Board! LOL
