I think the traditional notion is I-35. If you used 45, you would de-annex some of the most Southern parts of the state such as the brazos valley and the plantation lands east of Austin and San Antonio. I would agree to a point that unquestionably, east of 35 is the South, but, I don't accept the notion that the South simply ends there. Southernness in Texas extends far beyond I-35.
