It is encouraging to see Aotearoa Maori reach out to Pasifika, as it is known in New Zealand.

Campaigners like Annette Sykes should also be praised for admitting that Aotearoa Maori are "terribly racist" towards Pacific Islanders.

However in doing so Sykes reveals the bias at the heart of all Aotearoa views of the Pacific. She is quoted as saying that languages like "Tongan, Samoan and Rarotongan - they all come from the same root language as te reo."

She is right of course, just the order of seniority is wrong. Te Reo Maori in Aotearoa comes from Rarotonga, Samoa and Tonga, exactly in that reverse order!

Aotearoa Maori will never lose their sense of superiority until they make a fundamental backflip in their mental makeup - and also admit they are the children of the Pacfic, our tamariki, not our tupuna.
