Subject: Re: 4771 BOUGAINVILLE: Meekamui rejects state funeral for Ona

I am rather suprised you give recognition to Meekamui when clearly the Secretary General of UN has publicly stated the only recognised Government is the Autonomous Government of Bougainville which remains an integeral part of Papua New Guinea and will remain this way until such time that a referendum is held in 12/15 years allowing the people to choose themselved without the fear of intimidation or threat of guns.

I cannot understand why you refer to him as King, or the Kingdom which in reality is clearly not recognised.

A State Funeral can only be declared by the National Government, whilst there is respect for Francis Ona and indeed sympathy for his family. His death needs to be seen in context as the end of a period where the conflict has cost many lives and bought about divisions amongst the Bougainville people. Francis was a peaceful person, he of all wanted to see a united Bougainville and the best way this can be achieved is for a new beginning providing hope for the people in the NGZ to access full services the ABG and Government of PNG can provide and destroy the remainder of the weapons still circulating.
