Kanak tribes say mining concerns yet to be addressed
Traditional landowners from the South of New Caledonia's main island will protest on Thursday at the head office of local mining company, Goro Nickel.

The Goro nickel project, developed by Canadian mining giant, INCO, was suspended a year ago, due to a massive cost blowout.

A comprehensive review is now underway to determine what changes need to be made to guarantee the project's viability.

However, local Kanak tribes say their concerns about the effect of mining on the environment still have not been addressed.
