I know that this post is a bit late considering the amount of raiding we have been doing in the last few weeks. However, I would like to outline some of the things that RaidClub Clerics need to know. Hopefully this can help any new RC Clerics that join in the future. I will be posting this at the RaidClub Yahoo! message board as well.
During a raid, all the clerics are asked to join the chat channel called "RCClerics." Just a few days ago, I decided to make it a channel that I autojoin every time I log in with my cleric. You can do this by typing /autojoin RCClerics. You can autojoin several channels if you wish. All you have to do is type /autojoin and then type the names of your channels right afterwards, followed by a comma and no space. (For example: /autojoin RaidClub,RCClerics) We use this channel to communicate to each other about who we are healing, what spell we are using, cheal chains, etc, so that we do not waste too much mana by duplicating heals and such. Remember if there is a
password associated with the channel, you need to put a colon right after the channel name and then type the password.
We do a lot of chain healing in RaidClub for the raids that we have been doing lately. (Vindi, Doomshade, Xanamech) This may change in the future as our raiding needs change, but for now, it is sufficient. A chain heal is done by having several clerics constantly casting a heal (most commonly Complete Heal, aka Cheal) on the Main Tank (MT). One person starts a heal, then the next person starts healing, then the next, and so on, and so forth, till it gets to the last person, and the chain starts over with the first person.
In order to have a successful chain, all clerics must make a chain healing hotbutton. There are several ways that this can be done, but for RC purposes, everyone will use this setup:
1. Name your hotbutton whatever you like so you know what it is.
2. The first line of your hotbutton will read: /X Cheal on %T ... Soandso is next in Y seconds!
3. The second and third lines will read: /cast Z.
4. The fourth line will read: /pause 00.
5. The fifth line will read: /X Soandso start casting NOW!!!
In this hotbutton setup, "X" is the chat channel number. "Y" is the amount of time that is determined for the time inbetween your cast of this spell and the next person. "Z" is the spell gem number of the spell you want to cast. The %T....well, if you don't know that, then
I wonder how in the world you got to this level of game play! =) J/K! That stands for "Target" and this is the person that you are going to be casting on. The reason that there are 2 casting lines is in case you fizzle, or are interrupted. If your spell goes off with the first cast, then you will get a message like "you cannot perform
this action at this time" or something to that effect. This is normal, and it is just saying that you can't cast a spell because you are already in the process of casting. Nothing to worry about. The pause line is one that is sometimes confusing to some people. In EQland, the game does not use decimals in regards to hotbuttons. If
the pause was set to 5 seconds, this would be 5.0 seconds, or in a pause line, would read: /pause 50. That's just how the game works.
Here are a few other hotbuttons that you may find useful to make. Remember to say these lines in the cleric channel so as not to spam the raid channel, which EVERYONE knows that there is NO CHAT ALLOWED in the raid channel to allow for raid instructions from the raid leader.
/target Soandso - This is going to be one of your favorite buttons. Soandso is the MT and you always need to watch this person's hitpoints. A neat trick I recently learned about this one, is that if you have a Secondary Tank (ST) you can put that person on the first line, and the MT on the second line. However, in my opinion, this should only be used if the MT is dead so that you can quickly target the ST by using the same button. If the MT is dead, the
hotbutton will automatically target the ST for you, since there is no person around for it to target in the second line.
/X Cleric Down! - ummm, yea, you're dead, so it would be nice if the other clerics knew so that they can step in and fill your spot in the chain.
/X OOM! - again, when you are Out Of Mana, you can't cast, so someone needs to fill your spot in the chain. Remember to sit, or whip out your mount if you have one so you can med up and heal ASAP!
/X Interrupted! - I a chain heal, timing is everything, so if you are interrupted, even if you cast right away, it can be too late. Those seconds can be critical. Let the other clerics know so that they can start a heal.
/X Rezzing Soandso - With a clicky cleric around, it would be nice to know who is rezzing who so that non-clickies can save mana. It may be a good idea if you are one of the non-clickies to let the clicky clerics do all the rezzes and you can heal afterwards. No offense meant to anyone at all!
When you are a cleric involved in a chain heal, it is extremely difficult to keep your group healed. I don't mean to sound callous, but you have to let them die. The MT's life, and the life of the rest of the raid force depends on YOU to be in your place in the chain at the right time. If you are healing someone else when it is
your turn in the chain, the MT and the rest of the raid WILL die, and you along with it. I know that nobody likes to die, but that is what rezzes are for. If there are a lot of clerics in the chain, you "MAY" have a chance to get a quick heal off on someone else. If you do this, you must make ABSOLUTELY SURE you will be ready to cast when it is your turn. Along with this...extra heals means less mana
to cast your chain heal spell. Please keep this in mind. If you are one of the fortunate clerics, you may have a druid or a shaman in your group. They will be responsible for healing the group, so let them. It may be helpful to remind them of this fact at the beginning of a raid, but please, friendly reminders only.
Most orders of a chain heal in RC will go by group order. If there are any changes to this general guideline, you will be informed. Please also watch the raid channel for designated pullers, MT, ST, and Tank Mezzers (TM's) so that we don't have to repeat them several times.
During the setup of your buttons and watching instructions, the clerics will run a test run through the chain. The lead cleric (for lack of a better term) will tell everyone in the cleric channel that we are doing a test run. The things the lead looks for is a correct chain message designating the right person to go next, the correct
pause length, the message telling the next person to cast, and whether or not the next person starts right away on their cast. For some of us, a test run is old hat, but for a new cleric in the chain, it can be pretty nerve-wracking, so please, ye auld "Veterans of the Chain", be patient with the newbies and help them out in anyway you can, and encourage them along the way. After the test is complete,
the lead will let you know. Usually it is after a successful full cycle of the chain. It is ok to use your chain button even if we are not chaining. Due to the lack of more hotbuttons in the hotbutton bank, you probably don't have room for a separate button for that
heal. It's actually kind of helpful to use your chain button, simply because it lets the other clerics know that you are healing someone, and that they don't have to.
Another important thing to mention here would be to please tell the lead cleric if you are botting another player on the raid. Be sure to tell the lead who the player is, and which character they need to send tells to. If you are botting/being botted, it can be difficult to watch what is going on in the chat channel, so if a test is being called for, you may miss it. You should try to be in every test,
just so that you can see how it will go, and what to watch for, just for practice before the big boss.
I know that this post has gone on and on, but I wanted to share this with all you clerics so that you can have some sort of an idea of what to expect on an RC raid. Even with the length of this post, I feel like I am forgetting somethings that I have learned about a cleric in a raid, so I will add to this when I remember. =) I hope that this proves to be a helpful guide for you, and here's to raiding
with you soon!
May Brell bless and watch over you and your charges.
