I am interested in knowing where and how BG Hiram B. Granbury connects into the Granberry line. I have never seen his name listed as anything but "Granbury"
My connection to the Granberry line is through William Stafford Granberry's daughter Nancy virginia Granberry. Nancy married John Carroll Nations. My grandmother was Bertha Lenora Nations, daughter of John and Nancy.
Thanks,

- Granberry - Travis connection -- John Liegl, 11:37:48 03/28/10 Sun [2]
My son-in-law is a descendant of Johnathan Granberry (1793) and Ann Nancy Travis (1800). Have been told Ann is a cousin of Col. William Barret Travis of Alamo fame, but cannot seem to make the exact relationship connection of how they are related. I was told her ancestry is as follows: Simeon Ezekiel Travis(1770)/William Travis(1728)/Edward Travis/William Travis, but have no documentation and do not know if this is correct. Can someone give me the exact relationship between Ann Nancy and William Barrett Travis and show me how they are related through their ancestors? Thank you for any help.

- Seth Franklin Granberry -- Tommy Fehn, 21:32:24 10/24/10 Sun [1]
Hello,
Thank you in advance for any guidance you may offer. My name is Tommy Fehn and I am listed as a contract researcher on the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) website.
I am working on a project for a Granberry now living in Texas who is seeking the grave site of Seth Granberry (1797-1853)which is said to be located in the Thad C. Watson Cemetery in Copiah County Mississippi. To date, I have record of him being buried there but cannot find any physical description of it's location
I have exhausted my usual resources and am hoping that someone in your network can offer a suggestion or solution as to it's location.
Cordially,
Tommy Fehn

- Hello -- Tamara Granberry-White (Curious), 19:59:50 05/30/07 Wed [2]
Hi, I've been doing research on my family history. I traced my roots back to the late 1840's to my great-great grandfather John Granberry who was born a slave in Hinds or Copiah co. Mississippi. I've been researching the Granberry Plantation and I've read about H.B Granberry and his brothers but I'm not just sure how to find out where we came from. I've been stuck at this spot for months now. I've visited this site before, but all of the pics are of white people and my family is African American. I was told, but am not sure that our family's last name used to be Gray ( or Grey ...not so sure of the spelling) I was told that after the war that the slaves were given the Plantation Owners name and thats how our name became Granberry. Do you have ANY information on the slaves of any of the Granberry's? I would really appreciate your help.

- I'm a Granberry descendant -- Laura Lee (Ziebell) Kayata, 07:32:04 09/20/06 Wed [3]
Hello fellow Granberries!
Glad to find this website!
I have some information I can share and am also looking for some information:
My Mom (Betty Joyce Granberry Ziebell) was the daughter of Leon Young Granberry from Dothan, Alabama. She was born Dec 5 1933, and my grandfather was born approximately 1900. Before Mom passed away in 1986, she did extensive research on the Granberry name, tracing it all the way back to Exeter England, where she travelled to continue her research. In England, she discovered that an ancestor was "Keeper of the Keys" of the city (from what I gather, this is sort of like a Mayor). I believe she told me that her Granberry ancestors came to the States (Virginia and North Carolina)in the early 1600's. She found some early land records, including the inheritance of property, and slaves. I do know she said we were descendants of General Granberry. I als remember that in early family history, one of the Granberry men married a Native American woman named Pocahontas. (Not THAT Pocahontas :) .... maybe it's a common girl's name?!)
Unfortunately, Mom passed away before she finished all her research. The records are with my Dad in Falls Church, Va. If you'd like copies, I can forward them to you.
Here is what I know from my childhood and my Mom's studies: My grand-dad Leon was one of 12 children. The only names (of the 12) I remember are Julian and Ouida -my great aunt and uncle. I met my Grand-dad's Mom a few times on their farm in Alabama - she died of melenoma when I was just a kid (in the 1960's). My Grandfater married Avie Lee Rice not sure when - maybe in the late 1920's or early 30's).
My Mom's brother is James Granberry, and he lives in Goldsboro, North Carolina with his wife Nancy. Their kids - my cousins - are Sherry, David and Lisa (now Corbett).
Hope that info helps some other Granberries out there!
Here's my question - my Grandfather always told me that either his mother or grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee. Do you have any records / knowledge of this woman?
Thanks!

I have a family tree set up at myheritage.com, just look me up by name... I'm related to Granberry's from Mississippi, and said to be decendent from John Granbury of England who came over in 1640 and they changed his name to Granberry. In my family there is also a Ernest Olen Granberry, who's son was Harry Olen Granberry, Harry had sisters Elizabeth (no kids), Agnes (alfred and "Butch" Christensen), and Carolyn Granberry, I know Harry was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, not sure about his sisters.... Harry also had an aunt named Irene Granberry....Harry married my great grandmother Mary Frances Bobula, and Harry adopted Mary's son and named him Robert William Granberry, and had my Grandmother MaryAnn Granberry who had my mother Kimberly Ann Granberry
We also believe to be apart of the Hiram B. Granbury/Granberry family as well...
if you could possibly be related or could add to my family tree please contact me. Thanks! And Good Luck to all of you!

- Dear Old Uncle Hiram -- James Granberry Chalker (The Curious), 21:21:54 08/07/06 Mon [2]
My grandmother on my father's side was Edwin P. Granberry's (featured among your prominent Granberries) sister, Agnes Granberry Chalker. It is my understanding that they were the grandchildren of Hiram Grandberry's brother, I presume that would be Loammi. I understand that Loammi taught mathematics at a Mississippi college and that his son was also a professor and later the president of a Mississippi college or university. I don't recall which schools these were nor what my great grandfather's name was.
Do I have these correct? Was Loammi a professor of mathematics? Where? Was his son a college president? Again, where?
Thanks,
Jim Chalker

My grandfather Edwin Sr. was an author and friends with Margaret Mitchell. My grandfather had started a geneology search before his death, but I was too young to really take advantage of what he found out. I would appreciate any help you could give me. thanks in advance!

She is an outstanding first grade student. She receives awards for her academic performance and her good behavior all the time. She is very active in dance school. She has a Spring recital comming up in May. She recently took and passed the (A.I.G) test through the Academically/Intellectually Gifted Program. We have an upcomming conference with the school to discuss her special needs as a gifted child We love our daughter very much and we are very proud of her. We love her enough to allow her to get to know her birth family if that's what she wants to do. Could my daughter posibally be a part of your family? Can you help us find her birth mother?

My homeplace is Hunter's Mill Place, Sunbury, NC (south of Hwy US-158 at NC-32). Before 1727 suvey, area people used the Nancemond Co, Va courthouse. Among other family names on old maps is noted "Granberry" (sp?). As indicator of land-holdings, 1790 census records Granberrys the area's largest slave holders. Granberrys are now absent there - "left for elsewhere" ("Mississippi"?). Unsubstantuated rumor has the place named for Sunbury, PA.; I suspect the name a casual distortion (mis-spelling) of "Granbury". I seek substantuations to file for an NC historic marker.
