Later, “Friends”

The end of the sitcom “Friends” is a big event in television, but not on mine. I never was a fan as I don’t think I watched a single episode all the way thru. Not that I am criticizing the series – the sitcom just didn't appeal to me. Maybe because it was just not my generation’s “MASH” as it has been for so many others. And I am not saying that I missed out on a current sitcom due to a different perspective. Like most humans, I was (and I guess the reruns makes me a continued) huge fan of Seinfeld. More recently, I have discovered “Will & Grace” which nearly always captures my late night attention. IMHO the idea of a successful sitcom has to be controversial; deals in topics and content that challenges ideas in order to hold attention. With a few exceptions, the others just seem to get an early death. With the advent of all the other types of shows (Reality, DIY, History, Sports, an on and on), the chance for a straight up sitcom to make it seems to me to be diminishing. {End of Rant}

"Friends" finale this week

Michael

I did have an objection to "Friends", and I have the same one about "Will and Grace". I don't know when you are watching them, Michael, but I don't consider their regular program times as "late night". Which is my problem. They are great for "adult" humor, but they shouldn't be on prime time.
