Memories of Movies in Claremore:

1) Walking with my classmates from the Walter-Jumper-Leaper Middle School (was it the 6th or 7th grade?) to the Yale Theater to watch “Where the Red Fern Grows”.

2) That darn blue neon clock on the wall.

3) The scary tall Adam's Family looking "Lurch" theater care-taker Jake.

4) Waiting in a very long line to watch “King Kong” at the NeMar center and hearing and feeling the sidewalk crack under the huge load.

5) The Yale Theater’s balcony was just too cool.

6) Cartoons before movies.

7) Watching the Disney classics such as “Bambi” and “The Jungle Book” at the Yale Theater.

8) The time my dad took our whole family to see “Barberalla” and he made us all leave after about 10 minutes because it was too scary/weird.

9) Riding my bicycle with Hugh Jackson and Johnny Kincade down to the bottom of the new but empty NeMar Theater when it was being constructed.

10) Going to the PizzaHut after summer movies with Becke Angle.

11) The scratchy audio speakers at the Drive-In.

12) How the gravel at the Drive-In use to hurt my bare feet when I had to go to the nasty restroom or the concession stand.

13) Being disappointed that the Pink Panther animation would end and the real characters came on.

14) The lame swing-set at the Drive-In.

Those are some great memories, Mike. Until you brought up the guy's name, Jake, I had forgotten all about him. That does bring back some memories.

And yes, the balcony was way cool. And I can see vividly the neon clock on the wall, now that you've mentioned that as well.

Remember what the carpet looked like?

To this day, whenever I smell popcorn the first thing that comes to mind is that movie theater, and all the pleasant movie memories that come with it. I can still recall, as a youngster, the nervous excitement of waiting for a feature film to begin there at that old Yale Theater
