Subject: My new issue of Consumer Reports

My new issue of Consumer Reports (the best publication in the history of mankind IMHO) contains an article about rechargeable batteries. The battery lifetime facts jack:

1 NiMH = 140 Lithiums = 500 Disposable Alkalines

Cost is not the only metric to consider. One also needs to consider the environmental concerns as most non-rechargeable are simply thrown away. However let’s talk billage. The following prices were taken from www.Walmart.com.

1 Energizer NiMH (AA pack of 4 price) = $2.99
1 Energizer Lithium (AA pack of 4 price) = $2.49
1 Energizer Alkaline (AA pack of 8 price) = $.61

Throw those values back into the above:

NiMH - 1 * 299 = $2.99
Lithium - 140 * 2.49 = $348.60
Alkaline - .61 * 500 = $305.00

Of course you will have to throw in another +/- 10 smackers for the battery charger, which is negligible considering the alternatives. I buy extra NiMHs that sit in the charger just to have some always at the ready.

Happy Holidays!

Michael

I enjoy a glass of wine from time to time but tend to buy it more for others than myself. And although my tastes could not at all be considered sophisticated, I often encounter wine that does not suite me. It does not seem to matter how much the wine costs, sometimes it just does not taste good to me. However, when I do purchase/drink wine, I have found a few that always work for me. Coupled with the confidence of verification from my latest Consumer Reports (there he goes again), I recommend the following inexpensive Merlot and Chardonnay wines from the following wineries:

Concha Y Tora (Chile)
Yellow Tail (Australia)

Each of which gained CR’s “Best Buy” rating.

I’ve read articles about the beneficial effects of moderate to light wine consumption, especially red wine.

Some Europeans have as high, if not a higher percentage of fat in their diets than we do, and yet their incidents of heart attack and stroke are lower than ours. This has been attributed to the fact that more of them drink wine than we do.

Wine, apparently, contains powerful antioxidants and has blood-thinning capabilities.

When I have it, I drink a glass of red wine with my evening meal or before I go to bed. I like the merlot made by Gallo.

1 Timothy 5: 23
Be no longer a drinker of water, but use a little wine for thy stomach`s sake and thine often infirmities.

Have you tried the Merlot from Toad Hollow out of California? I also like their Cacophony Zinfandel for something light or Beringers' Merlot Blanc.

Yes I liked the Toad Hollow, but my favorite are the Syrahs - a type of red wine.

No, I haven't tried those, John. But after hearing yours and Mike's recommendations, I will.

Thanks and stay safe,

Bryan
