Subject: Happy days and Hairy Nights

From late 1959 through to the Bee changing to include the Casa Miel (?) I took my T110 and later TR6 and eventually T120 to visit my night time friends and ever faithful jukebox in the best location in the world (as I then believed). My daytime job was an electrician earning me enough money to keep my bike in B.P Viscostatic oil. My mates included Jonnies Coltrini, Merry and Hurley, allt Triumph owners, Rocket Ray (Southgate) Ginger (I never knew his surname and Sandy Jones plus two ladies with the first names of Denise from the Robin Hood Estate. The only story I am at present prepared to reveal is that on one weekend night a well known pop star arrived after having given a show in London, (this was quite a common event then as it was well known that most people survived the cuisine at the Bee as it was clean prompt - (and cheap). Well this guy was popular with the ladies and according to his publicity machine "Well disposed to fans and approachable modest and did not seek publicity. The man reffered to stood six foot some in hid light coloured jeans, white stetson hat jewelled western boots and dark shades. Thes gear contrasted well to the oiled belstaffs, black P V C and for the lucky few Black leather jeans and jackets. His wheels also differed in as much as he had four they were white walled and fixed to a Jaguar XK120.
I remenber him sitting down beside the Juke box alongside the pin ball machines, having got someone to inform "Vic" the counterman (Through an interpreter) to supply some sort of beverage. To the eternal credit of all the guys present he was totally ignored save for the one young lade Sandy Jones (I now know to have sadly pased on) walking up and saying, "Are you Billy Fury?" to wich he replied "Yes how did you know?" !!!!!! A voice then reverently spoke fron the "Boys" "Cos your Jag has got a flat tyre" The star rose to his feet and said "Oh Yeah which one?" The voice said "All of them". This was indeed true. Mr F shouted "Who did that ?" Big Ginger stood forward and said "I did". (I did not know then and do not know now if he did) but after a moments hesitation Big Billy strode forward past Ging into the car park got into his car and roared out onto the A 41 towards North Watford on the disintergrating aforementioned white wall tyres all flat as a pancake. Does anyone remember the incident me or the wherabouts of anyone mentioned. Please get in touch if you do or just want to touch base. I still have a Pre Unit 650 Triumph in Bonnie spec but it is currently in the rebuild mode. I now live in Deepest Dorset sa can't often stray to the Busy Hilton or whatever it has now become. My 60's fetish was to arrive at the Bee order Pie Tomato and Chips and whilst waiting step to the 'box and play Sweet Dream baby by Roy Orbison. Any Bells ring. Also Charlie Pallo was convinced that I had five bikes all with the same number. This erronous story persisted and was embarrasing as in 1967 I broke all taboos and become a Traffic cop at North watford (and therefore a oompadrie of Tom mahony (Then a desk sgt at Tring) and therefore the enemy . Sorry Sorry Sorry !!! B F N
