香港大學表示，經過科學方法點算，今年遊行人數介乎十萬五千至十二萬人，比警方和民陣的估計要少。

港大社會科學研究中心主任白景崇今天表示，中心於七月一日遊行當天，在金鐘行人天橋裝置兩部攝錄機，在下午三點半至晚上七點半，紀錄途經的遊行人士，研究員在每三十秒，抽出四秒影像，以慢格計算遊行人數。為確保計算精確度，每個樣本點算至少兩次，部份樣本更點算四次，得出的結果是，約有十一萬二千人經過金鐘，平均每小時有三萬人。

白景崇強調，該中心是獨立進行評估，並非要否定其他的評估結果，只是提出準確可核證的統計方法，計算實際遊行的人數。

發起遊行的民間人權陣線堅稱今年遊行人數有五十三萬人，警方則估計有二十萬人。
