Subject: Is a 16 team comp out of the question for 07????

I know we struggled to make up the 14 team comp this year, however we superleague becoming alot more popular and the calls for an uneven draw maybe we should look at it.

It could work like this.
2 new teams - The Crows...The Dees

All 14 teams put up a list of 10 untouchables. The 2 new teams then get to pick 25 players each from the 14 teams. They could have 6 picks in the draft, then 6 picks in the PSD.They then get Pick 17 and 18 in the draft and pick 1 and 2 in the PSD draft.
That would give them a playing list of 37. The last 7 players could come from either the draft/psd/rookie

We could then follow the AFL draw.

So if the Pies play the Tigers in the season opener, that would also be our first match.

Thoughts...I'm sure I'll get a reaction

Its taken me 2 years to build up this squad & if forced to list 10 untouchables it all seems pointless.

Would quit the comp rather than support this idea.

cheers RB

I happen to agree with you RB, but what do we do, hold the rest of the league at ransom. Saying "Change it and I'm out". So does this mean you don't like the 'agree with the majority rules' system we have in place. O.K what is the system RB. By the way good question MG77B.

[> Long term solution to this............ -- D9, 16/07/06 7:24:55pm [1]

How about two coaches take on Melbourne and Adelaide. They will be made up of the remaining players left out of the other sides. They could be like a sure win for other sides when they meet them. When the coaches who have control of them, slowly bring them back to competitive, then those two coaches could give the sides to someone else new to look after. It may take two to three seasons, but they would come in the draft and get picks, and be able to trade picks and players that may be good.

We could all drop down to 40 players again, to make an extra 56 players available for these sides to source from. We could even make them competitive if we wanted to, by developing a handy cap plan for the first three years, reducing after everyone.

I would love to see 16 teams in the comp, and I would take on one of the sides. Melbourne.

This way no one loses anything, and we gain another two sides long term, what do others think???

Which I think is the only way it would work.

But as others have said I think the 44 list is working a lot better. I'd go down to 42, but the difficulty is we are at the wims of the AFL coaches so we can't select players as such. This means we need a larger pool than the AFL lists to select from.
