Subject: Shabby commits to Bulldogs

After an interrupted off-season which saw the club apparently see 2 managers come and go, the club looks to have finally found some much needed stability and direction, with Shabby signing a 2 year contract with the club on Tuesday night. Shabby takes over in time for round 4.

And it didn't take him long to make a decision, re-naming the previously named Dodgies back to there original name of Bulldogs. This name change symbolises a new beginning for the club.

Shabby looks to be the missing ingredient for the Bulldogs, with a plan now set in place to ensure the team is a competitive member of Superleague in the future.

Shabby had this to say about his appointment to the club at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon;

"It is an honour to accept this position as coach of the Bulldogs, which I am 100% committed too. With a bit of hard work and planning, this team can be a force in the Superleague long into the future.

"I am under no illusions of where this squad is at. Little has been done in the recent past to resurrect this club, and I will change that, but it won't happen overnight. It is clear this team hasn't got the firepower to be a dominant force in 2006, so we will be focusing most of our energy on the future.

"We have some promising youngsters on our list, and won't hesitate to give them opportunities, even if it means leaving some older guys out. We will also be trying to develop our mid-range players further, as well as getting more leadership out of our stars, which is why we have named a 6 man leadership group for 2006. The 6 players in the leadership group will be Barry Hall, Simon Black, Daniel Cross, Paul Licuria, James Clement and Brett Deledio. These players are the backbone of our side.

"We will be very aggressive if a mid-season trade period traspires, which we really hope does. We will also be an active member of future trade periods and drafts to get this team up to the desired level. The ultimant aim is for us to be a serious contender for the Superleague title in 2007."
