Just thought I'd initiate a separate thread for a bit of commentary on the draft as if on folded to prevent the other getting cluttered.

First of all a pat on the back for RB for keeping this thing rolling - sorry I ducked out on you guys last night, didn't realise it would more that freely.

Nick pick-up on Spangher MG778, I was tossin' up between he and Anthony with 36 but a cross between Wiz's review on Nicks and Collingwood biased got Anthony over the line.

Clark was a no-brainer at 8, the only other option was the hyphen but under Matthews I have high hopes for Clark.
On 14, I was stoked that Higgins fell through. Have no idea if he's any good, but the Bulldogs were rapped he fell to 11 for them and Scott Clayton has a great track record. I also needed a classy mid to go with a promising tall.
With Anthony, have added a key back, which aren't easy to come by in this comp.

Hope everyone's enjoying the benefit of doing the draft ourselves, huge improvement on taking what you're given IMO.

Cheers.

You had a couple of big calls early, particularly jumping on to Pendelbury with 2 and then Ellis with 4.

Good users of the ball seem to be pointscores (Gilbee) - happy with your haul?

[> [> [> [> Definately got the 2 i wanted -- RB, 29/11/05 6:09:00pm [1]

Pre AFL Draft i wanted Ryder & Ellis.

Then Pendlebury shot up the rankings in the AFL & blew those plans apart.

After seeing Ryder slide behind the injured duo Dowler & Kennedy plans were changed.Probably will regret this down the track.

Watched the U/18 GF & really rated in order Ellis & Pendlebury over & above Thomas.

Took a punt on leaving Thomas on the table by locking in Pendlebury at 2 & hoped Walt would take him.Thankfully it paid off cause Ellis was # 1 for me (above Murphy).

If Walt had of taken Ellis would have gone Thomas ( maybe for trade bait) or Ryder.AFL Picks 5 & 7 for 2 & 4 end result.

Very happy & surprised to score Tuck @ 32,Maxwell alert lol,John Anthony was next in line.

Now down the track can only hope that i didn't burn picks on the Fiora twins! after reading CW's reports.

cheers RB

As far as this place goes, you both do a ripping job - all bases covered.

Cheers

Mate, you did well with Higgins.
Pick 14 was part of our trade Russell/Whitnall.
I would have picked Higgins if I still had the pick.

I was pleased to pick up Stanley. Wanted a midfielder to replace the aging Crawford and also Adam Simpson is nearing the end of his career.

Also Ben Hudson is recovering from a Knee reco. So I wanted an older ruckman that could play in 2006.
Was worried the Kangaroos would pick him up at 38 , so I chose him at 33. Hudson has done well, so I am hoping that Rix will do well too. He might get a bit of game time in 2006, seeing St Kilda are not really blessed with ruckmen.

Always like to pick who I think is best available, and picking Austin Lucy was a hardy. Had a couple of others I was interested in, that may not be there my next pick, but oh well. Some had Lucy up higher than he went, so I will be hoping his ready made AFL body gets him some senior experience sooner rather than later.

[> Auto picks for Bitchmond and Port -- D9, 29/11/05 6:49:38pm [1]

Perhaps because they were auto picked last round, can we do it again quicker, or is that changing too much?? Just that I know thye won't probably pick

[> [> MY PICK 50 -- Howie, 29/11/05 8:48:29pm [1]

Would anyone mind if I took a punt on Luke McEntee?

He wasn't drafted but I'm willing to gamble my pick that he'll either go PSD or rookie.

If not Kristin Thornton, whoever the hell that is.

I don't know enough about the recruits to be trying to pick.

Happy to get Varcoe though based on the few reports I have read. Just hoping he gets his foot right.

Murphy that is, we're wrapped at Brianland to have him in the den.

We went for players who we liked the sound of their names, not traditionals if you know what I mean. Jay, Marc, Dale will all look good on the team sheet.
