Subject: Ooh, just seeing this now, and I very much like your connection of his manner with Bree to his role as a husband. I don't know why I hadn't thought of it, but it's entirely possible Isobel's experience was as delightful, or more so, as Bree's. Especially since she might not have had Bree's - - and ours - - modern sensibility about romance, sex, and marriage flowing seamlessly together. It's easy to forget that the emotional, spiritual, and utterly romantic connection between Jamie and Claire would not necessarily have characterized many 18th century marriages, especially among people of the Dunsany's and Grey's social position. But Isobel could indeed have cherished having John's devotion as a huband who was also a true friend.
In reply to: maddiej 's message, "Yes, I don't understand the people who think Isobel was "cheated," having John for a husband. He'd undoubtedly treat her in this fashion, *and* have considerate, thoughtful sex with her. I don't think she would even be aware of the side of him that told Percy, "Yes, I am a beast. Make the best of it."" on 15:08:51 10/13/07 Sat
