Subject: need a new style bad!

I have had the same style for 4 years, long highlighted blonde hair. I am thinking of going to dark brown with lots of blonde highlights. Is this somthing fesible? I will pay someone to do it in fear of messing it up. But going from all blonde to partially dark brown with blonde I am afraid of discoloration and fading. I use the new Dove for colored hair and it seems to work great. Would this hairstyle be easy to keep up? Also I have long hair almost to middle of back, it is thin. What new cuts can I do, but keep it long enough to pull back(small children)?
