If your hair has white-blonde highlights with no red, go to another colorist (one who communicates better). If everything has a red tone to it, pick out a demi-permanent color with an ash base (one to two shades lighter than the color that seems to be right...the hair swatch is hair color deposited on completely colorless white hair and it is almost always going to come out darker than the swatch).

If your highlights have something other than a red tone and the rest of your hair is red, this is best left to a professional that understands your needs (they should be able to clearly explain what can be done...consult with them first before doing anything...don't go to them if they seem clueless and dumbfounded or if the two of you aren't on the same wavelength). Don't try if your highlights are something other than red and the rest of your hair is red. The reason I say this is that you could end up putting an ash tone on this and then end up with green-tone highlights (ash is green). The red will come out, but then you'll have another problem and you'll have to use red to cancel out the green, then ash to cancel the red, red to cancel green, and the story goes on and on with no end in sight...but if all your hair is red tone, try using ash again (remember to pick out a demi-permanent shade at least one shade lighter than the swatch that looks like what you desire...you can always go darker later).
