Go to a beauty supply store. Pick up a product for porosity control (your hair is probably very porous right now, making it likely to have uneven color). Also, pick up an intense moisturizing treatment for color-treated hair to use after coloring. And get a plastic cap if you don't have one already for conditioning afterwards. It could also help if you pick up a light leave-in conditioner to apply before letting your hair dry after coloring and intense conditioning (I personally like Wella Color Preserve Leave-In). And if you don't like applying baby powder to your roots between shampoos, get a dry shampoo to apply to your roots between shampoos (I like Klorane)

If the porosity control product is a conditioner, apply and rinse. If you can, wait for your hair to dry before beginning color. Otherwise, blowdry hair with cool air.

Pick up a demi-perm pro color with a blue-violet (blue cancels out orange, purple cancels out yellow; ask someone for a swatch book to note the base tones of any shade; avoid anything with ash cause then you'll have a green problem in addition to your orange and yellow) base (I personally like Loreal Colorgems). Select a shade that's at least one shade lighter than the swatch of the color that seems right for you (the swatch is on colorless white hair and the color is almost always going to come out darker; most likely this will involve a tone with light or lightest in the name). You can always go darker later if it's not dark enough. After coloring, rinse the color thoroughly (don't use shampoo at all).

After coloring, towel dry hair and apply the intense conditioning treatment onto your hair. Put the plastic cap over your hair and let it sit for about twenty minutes (applying heat from your blowdryer around you head, close to the cap, is even better for penetrating the cuticle.

When all is done, try to let your hair air-dry. If you cannot do that, dry on the lowest heat setting and try to keep the blowdryer nozzle at least six inches away from your hair. Don't wash your hair for at least three days (this will allow your hair to breathe and gain better condition; natural oils are good for your hair)...place baby powder or dry shampoo on oily roots during the time between coloring and the next shampoo. Hope this helps!
