Subject: haircolor keeps washing out

I had dyed my hair from medium brown to dark blonde. I didn't like the color (too orange)so I bought a haircolor remover kit and redyed my hair medium brown but the haircolor keeps washing out within a month or so. I dye it again the medium brown and it turns almost black with orange highlights. How can I keep my hair medium brown without it washing out? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
