Subject: how can i remove my red hightlights and go back to my natural color?

hey i have gotten my hair done like months ago with red highlights and now i want to get them out but i dont want to ruin my hair or cause damage to it. i was wondering if there is any way that i can get them out or get it to get lighter and lighter and eventually go back to my nautral color. some people say that you can use home products to get the red out like for an example(laundry detergant. so if you can help me out it really would be helpful
