- Park Public School Class Pictures from 1944 to 1951 -- Donna, 11:49:25 03/01/07 Thu [10]
Hello Everyone:
I'm hoping that someone who went to Park Public School in the early 40's to 50's might have some class pictures to share. I have been looking for one with my Uncle my mom's brother in it he was 10 when he was a student at Park Public School and was killed by a car while playing ball with his friends whose names were Leslie and Jimmy Barnett their pictures were posted in the Toronto Star with the story about the accident. The accident took place in Jan 1951 around Sutton Avenue in Cabbagetown. Actually I would love to see any class pictures from that time since my mother had several brothers and sisters all close in age. I have got one boy's team picture from 1954 its a team champions Football team picture and I would be willing to share with anyone who would like it. Thank you for your help. Donna

Yahoo/Geocities is closing down their website division sometime this year, this means The Cabbagetown Chronicles will be gone forever. The site has been up 12 years (Since 1997) which is not a bad run. Sorry, but this is totally beyond my control. Thanks to everybody that contributed their pictures and stories to it. This message board will still be available so bookmark it.
It's been a blast

My sister Joan Pasley was in your class different years, your sister Penny was in the same class as an old friend of mine named Donnie West. Penny's husband Ronnie Bateman was in my class a couple of times, when he lived on Dundas st. before Regent Pk. His brother I believe his name was Buddy new my cousin Beryl Skuce who was married to Sky Hi Lee the wrestler for a while. Istill have class pictures from Park school with Ronnie and myself in them. I lived at #22 Blevins ( old Blevins Pl.)You say y'all have moved to California, I guess you must miss the snow we had a pile last winter although nothing like 1944 when I was in grade one. I hope you are all well and say hello to Gov. Arnold. By the way Penny and her girlfriend Pat Hutton use to call me" Squashie " don't know where that came from. So long for now, miss those 5cent showers at the bathouse. Doug.

I never seem to read or hear about any of the old timers from the late 1940's and the 1950's.
Love to read about those that lived in Cabbagetown just before Regent Park and those that moved into Regent Park when it first opened along with some of their stories ( good or bad ) and where they are now and what they did since then.
Many of them went to Park and Dufferin Schools.
I and a couple of others did post a few years ago but that seems to be about it.

Hi, lived on Carlton St, from 1949 at 2 until 59. Attended Lord Dufferin, from 0 to 3. Wondering about Lynn Nocks who lived on Spruce St. Carol & Walter Barker on Dermott Pl. (both hearing impaired). From Winchester School i remember Carol Aracado, Wayne Weese, Henry Bess,
Stuart McLean & Judy Lackey. Great memories of playing at Riverdale Park, the flats, great for sledding. Skating at Mutual arena, the Parliament theatre, the Tulip Bar later the Satellite Restaurant, Tamblyns Drug Store, Woolworth and Chainway and Wayne Radio all on Parliament St. It was a great place to grow up many happy memories.

- Hi fellow cabbagetowners! -- Jimmy Laughlin, 07:31:13 03/27/07 Tue [14]
Wow, what a great forum. My family (Lynda, me, Stephen, Patsy, Bernie, Tom and Veronica - Jim & Olive parents) lived at 463 Gerrard from 1950 to 1957. Sibs all still kickin' and parents both gone. Some people I remember from that building and the house next door were Carla McNeil, Sheila Mike and Johnny Roscoe, Wayne and Blayne, Frankie and Hughie Simpson. We moved to a house at 363 Gerrard in 57 and the family was there until the late 70s. It was across the street from Walters Snackbar and Roy's Grocery. Blake's Variety was on the other corner (I think the McNultys lived upstairs). Remember the Sip&Bite on Parliament, the Male Shop and the ParG pool hall? Others that lived in those houses at Sackville and Gerrard were the Munros (Sharon -my first wife, Ricky, Brenda, Bob), Wayne and Cliff Barker, Robert Holland, Willy Springit, the Chattans and so many more (I'm brutal remembering names unless I hear them - but never forget a face). I went to St Martins school, played hockey for Lourdes and hung around with Les Morgan, Wayne & Cliff Barker, Marty Collins and Steve and Roman Mill. Spent lots of time at the K Club (our banquet team was the Silver Darts). I knew lots of others like Ernie & Bonnie McMaster, Donna McFarlane, Stevoreno?, Joey & Scrappy Scott, Joey Kelly and the twins Linda and Marlene?, the Komskys from S Regent, Gary Eastwick, Dougie Mc? from 407 Gerrard, and I guess I could go on and on. Just wanted to say hello to all and it would be nice to hear from any of you. It was great growing up in Cabbagetown and I wouldn't change it for the world! A special hello to Carla. Apologies to the many I knew and did not mention. Maybe y'all could remind me:>)

I would like to make contact with any campers that attended the Gables Camp, on Lake Simcoe, operated by the Central Neighbourhood House. it was a Camp for Mothers and their Children, during the War years.
I attended from about 1940 to about 1947. I'm 70 Yrs old now.
Would like to exchange any photo's that you may have, from your camping days.
Sometimes the camp was referred to as Allandale Camp, as the meeting place on arrival was the Allandale Train Station, just south of Barrie, Ontario.
All responses, Most Appreciated.
Kind Regards.

- Looking for Old Friends -- Wayne M., 11:42:55 09/19/08 Fri [1]
Great site, recognize a lot of the names. Does anyone know the whereabouts of the Collins family members Margaret, Susan, Michael, Bruce, Joey and mom Nell. I was the cub master at St. Barts for a while around 1966 and Margaret was my assistant. While I remember many of the names listed on the site I was particullary close to the Collins family. I left Toronto in 67 and lost track of many of my old friends.

- Hilda Aston (age 82) has passed away -- Keith J. Duffield (Sad News), 07:55:19 08/28/08 Thu [4]
My Aunt Hilda passed away yesterday in the Toronto East General Hospital (formally of Sackville, see below). Memorial details TBA.
Mon August 13 2007 - 21:22:06
Keith "Jeff" Duffield
keith.j.duffield@servicecanada.gc.ca
Anyone Remember: My father Stanley Duffield and his sister Hilda Aston founded the original "Regent Park Bowling League" which they ran from 1951 to 1955 in the basement of St. Cyril's Church on Dundas. I was just looking through the old photos of the teams I have, and some home-movies of the dinners and dances. The league later bowled at the Queen St. Bowling Alley (at Pape Av). I remember setting up the pins there. My father was also the Regent Park Community Santa Claus in 1960, because the regular guy was sick. My family moved from their old Oak Street house; my grandparents to #603, 365 Parliament St and my parents to #312, 259 Sumach St. I went to Sprucecourt from 1959 to 1961. Does anyone remember Mrs. Duffus in Grade 1? Too bad! How about the soda-fountain restaurant at Gerrard and Sackville? I would love to here from you.

Great site!!!
I grew up first living at 674 Dundas St. Apt. 204 then moved to 132 River St. where I lived untill I was 18.
I went to Park School and then Spruce Court and then back to Park. I went to Bickford Park High for 3 years.
I do recognize some of the names here and it brings back some good memories.
Anyone know what happened to eggy DeCaire, she lived in south regent on dundas st & river. How about the Wallaces, Keyes,Horniblows,Wayne & Doug Rogers from south regent.
I also use to box at the kiwanis club and my father was a Member & Officer of the Regent Park Old Boys Assoc.
Peggy was in my 6th or 7th grade class in the portable class room and she sat at the back by the teachers locker where we threw our clothes on during track.
Looking forward to hearing from any of the old gang.

- What ever happened to???? -- Maggie B, 12:45:54 12/01/07 Sat [16]
Hi all this is a really neat page. Names from 50 years ago. I had forgotten my mother was insistent on using my second name back then Norine. Ahhh now maybe a few will remember. I lived at 365 Parliament St across from Lord Dufferin School. Why did they tear it down? I was totally shocked when we went driving by. I can't say I disagree with tearing down Regent Park but LDS I can't fathom. Now I am wondering about other folks from the building from 1958 to 1968 when I left. I will start at the main floor and work my way to the sixth floor, please forgive my spelling. Munroe Heather,Danny, Rhonda....,Therman Mark, Wendy, Gary, Vaughn..., Terriff Mike,Meridith,Tom... Coberson Rob..,Wellens Ken..,Buckingham Doug.., Prontack Susan, Mike, Steve, Mark, Kimberly...,Neilsen Diane,Randy..., Flavel Marleen & brother. Well I guess thats all that I remember. Bye Maggie B
