The Sand Pebbles is set in 1926 in revolution-torn China, when the crew of an American gunboat, the San Pablo, is called upon to rescue some American missionaries working far up the Yangtse River. It is so much similar to the Yangtse Incident with the sights, smells and confusion! It is a must visit site!

I have been told about the film " The Sand Pebbles" many times I have been reminded about it and it is an interesting look at the Americans known as the River Rats. These US sailors used to patrol the yangtse river in the heart and soul of protecting US interest's! ???

The film stars Steve McQueen and many other wonderful young actors like Candice Bergman (19 years old).

Well I have found a very interesting site that has links off of links and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Do not forget those living in Australia there is on Foxtel 8th April a documentary about
Secrets of War Mao's Secret History. While the Allied and Axis powers battled for control of Europe, China's Chiang Kai-Shek and his US backed State Police fought a bloody secret war against Mao Tse-Tung's Soviet trained and financed army.

After if anyone in Australia or the world has seen this documentary then please meet to discuss your own opinion at the Friends of the Four ships Chat Room a date yet to be decided! If you are a historian of Chinese history you will be most welcome.
