Subject: PayPal

This is the second time I've received an email claiming to be from
Paypal that passes all the criteria I know of, saying it IS from
Paypal, the Received ip addresses match, the check made during the
final hop of the mail was ok, it didn't ask me to go to a web page
in Romania, it didn't ask me to give them my password. In fact,
this time all it asked me to do was to mail my documentation for
the claim to a Post Office Box, and that box BELONGS TO Paypal.

I can't find the first one at the moment but the second one claimed:

"You have successfully submitted a claim of 'Unauthorized Use of
My PayPal Account'. For your protection, your account access may
be limited and all reported transactions pended."

I've never submitted such a claim.

So I called them on the phone, spent twenty minutes trying to find
out how compromised I had to be for someone to actually have submitted
such a claim, they needed to be all the way in.

And, just like the last time I got something claiming to be from Paypal
which really looked like it WAS from Paypal, but which said I'd done
something that I'd never done, I sent it off to their abuse staff...

and they sent back a form reply thanking me for sending them this
and they say it is a spoof mail and not from Paypal.

I'm really beginning to think that their reply process would claim
that ANYTHING sent to them was actually a spoof. I might try that,
just to see if I'm right.

So, I expect I'll never get a sensible answer out of them or ever find
out if someone at Paypal just pushed the wrong button in response to
one of my Paypal spoof reports, but that would be my guess.

The phone support person wasn't able to answer questions about
whether I had submitted something like this, whether they had mailed
something like this, etc. Her skill level was "Well, do you see any
transactions in your Paypal history that you didn't make?" Geeze.

But, just for chuckles, is there anything anyone can see in their
email to me that says it really wasn't from Paypal? The only odd
thing is the last three lines. Or anyone else noticing similar
items going by?

Many thanks for your consideration
don
