Police issue warning on Internet blackmail scam
Cyber blackmailers are reported to be focussing on office workers, threatening to delete computer files, or install pornographic images on their work PCs unless they pay a ransom.

Police and security experts in Britain say the extortion scam indiscriminately targets anyone on the corporate ladder with a personal computer connected to the Internet.

Experts say it usually starts with a threatening email in which the author claims to have the power to take over a worker's computer through a loophole in the corporate network.

The email usually contains a demand that unless a small fee is paid, the blackmailers will attack the PC with a file-wiping program or download images of child pornography on to the terminal.

Police however warn if a person pays the small amount, the blackmailers may simply demand more.
