Search for ‘Star in a Million’ begins
The "Search for Star in a Million" starts today with the grand presentation of the "Champions League of Twelve" tonight at the Aliw Theater. As it presents to the public the 12 hopefuls, the free show will look and feel like a concert and it promises to be the very first concert contest ever in the country. Because it will also be a musical extravaganza with the biggest singers in the country tapped to help welcome into the local music industry the 12 finalists of ABS-CBN’s "Search for Star in a Million."
The network’s singing star search has produced a new generation of singing superstars, among them Erik Santos, Sheryn Regis, Marinel Santos, Johann Escanan, Frenchie Dy,Michael Cruz and Christian Bautista; while that of Viva Entertainment’s "Search for a Star" (formerly "Star for a Night") has produced phenomenal singing sensations in Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Raymond Manalo and Mark Bautista. "Search for the Star in a Million" is the fusion of the two and it has become the biggest, boldest,brightest singing star search in Philippine TV history.
Hosts of the singing contest, which is looking for the next multi-media, singing super sensation, are singing champs themselves - Sarah, Erik, Christian and Mark. The show is pulling all the stops to ensure that the grand champion will be someone who not only has the voice, but who sports that elusive and all-important X-factor.
At stake for the winner is R5-million worth of cash and prizes which includes a house and lot, a contract with Star Records, and a sure spot in ABS-CBN’s "ASAP Mania."
Now, let’s get to know the 12 finalists, chosen from thousands who tried it out from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The list was trimmed down to 111, and then 30, and then 9. However, during the wildcard round, a surprise announcement was made. Not only one,but three Wildcard Searchees were given the chance to join the grand finals round or what is now popularly known as the "Champions’ League of Twelve."
Presented to the press recently, they are: Nikki Bacolod from Iligan City; Mabel Bacusmo,Leyte; Hans Lee, Pampanga; Christine Fernandez, Butuan; Jorell Canuel, Cavite; Dianafe Castillo, Batangas; Billy Joel Bartolome, Bulacan; Michael Caluma, Marikina; Jona Lumbera, Manila; Veejay Aragon, Cebu; Ryan Racal, Cebu; and Jerome Sala, Bohol.
Mabel said "it’s really my dream to become a successful singer;" Hans said "I want to prove to the people who look down on showbiz hopefuls like me that anybody who has a dream can make it;" Nikki, Jorell, Dianafe, and Billy Joel all wanted to help their family financially; Christine said "I would really want to know if I have a place in singing;" Michael said "I want to try my luck and be able to make my hometown proud; Ryan said: "I want to share my music to the rest of the nation and make my hometown proud;" and Jerome said :"I want to expose my talent and my music."
