'Sisters' propel ALS benefit
Org celebrates achievements on the Disney lot

By PAULA TAYLOR

Hollywood loves a happy ending and Project ALS needs one. With that
goal in mind, celebrities, execs and a handful of stars from the
medical field gathered at the Disney lot to celebrate the still-new
charity's achievements so far.

Valerie Estess touted the accomplishments of the organization she set
up with her sisters Meredith and Jenifer after the latter was
diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou
Gehrig's disease. Jenifer died in December.

The centerpiece of Thursday evening's fundraiser was a screening of
HBO's documentary "Three Sisters: Searching for a Cure," about the
Estess sisters, introduced by the pic's exec producer, Brad Grey. One-
time oncology nurse Bonnie Hunt spoke, as did Disney's Bob Iger, who
paid tribute to Disney exec Harry Grossman, who is battling the
disease. A perf by Lionel Richie ended the evening.
