Author: Qoheleth
Subject: The Subreal Winter Olympics 2006: Back on Track
In reply to: Volinar 's message, "The Subreal 2006 Winter games" on 07:06:09 02/13/06 Mon

"Well, Erineae," said Qoheleth brightly, "it's five days until the Games, half the registered nations don't have flags, the Spanish dogsledding team consists entirely of Arctic foxes, and nobody knows where the torch is. See all the excitement you missed when you decided to resign from the SOC?"

Erineae smiled. "It was worth every minute of it," she said, "just to see you rhapsodizing about Amy Bowen's creative, well-organized mind."

"What did you want me to say?" Qoheleth demanded. "'Hello, Amy, I'm calling because my Muse has quit the committee to join the Subreal snowboarding team, and you were the only person I could think of who might be insane enough to fill her shoes'?"

"There's no rule stating that the Subreal Olympic Committee has to have nine members, Solomon," Erineae pointed out. "You and the other remaining seven could have just muddled along."

Qoheleth shrugged. "Oh, well. If Amy wasn't on the Committee, she couldn't have dispatched Q to go find Ryouku What's-His-Name; and, let's face it, he does have a better chance of success than anyone else I can think of offhand. What he'll do with him when he finds him is another matter, of course - I wouldn't put it past him to decide that you can't have Lost Boys without pirates and Indians, and won't that make an interesting opening ceremony - but the fact remains that he can do it."

"Exactly," said Erineae. "So everything is working out fine."

"I suppose," said Qoheleth. "And, incidentally, Erineae... you spent a year on Vulcan, didn't you?"

"Maybe."

"Did they ever mention whether Betazed was a world government, or whether it had individual countries? Deanna Troi's being evasive on that point."

"As far as I know, they're all one big, happy family," said Erineae. "It rather takes the fun out of political rivalries when all the diplomats know exactly what the others are thinking."

"Something in that." Qoheleth jotted down a note on his pad. "Betazed - GC." "Thanks."

"Anytime."
