‘Diva 2 Diva: Up Close’ at Captain’s Bar
As singers, they’re the best. As concert performers,
they’re in a class of their own. If there are any female artists
who truly deserve the tag of "diva," it’s them.
After more than two decades in the business, Kuh Ledesma and Zsa Zsa
Padilla remain on top of their game. "There are no performers quite
like them," says long-time friend and creative collaborator Floy
Quintos.
Quintos wrote the script for Diva 2 Diva, Kuh and Zsa Zsa’s first
back-to-back concert at the Reception Hall of the Philippine
International Convention Center (PICC) in November 2002. The star
power and talent of Kuh and Zsa Zsa turned "Diva 2 Diva" into one of
the biggest and most successful concerts not just in the Philippines,
but across the US and Europe where it played to enthusiastic and
appreciative crowds. The show was so successful that four years after
its debut, it is still running!
Tonight and tomorrow night, August 5 and 6, "Diva 2 Diva" comes back
for another performance, but this time on a smaller, more intimate
(but no less impressive) scale at the Captain’s Bar of the
Mandarin Oriental Manila. "Diva 2 Diva: Up Close" is part of
Kuh’s year-long 25th anniversary celebration.
Presented by SMART Gold and Mossimo, "Diva 2 Diva: Up Close"
will have other performances on August 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27.
Kuh says that the smaller venue will add a different touch to
the show. "We’ve done this show in venues as diverse as the PICC
and the Music Museum. It will be different, doing it in a place
like the Captain’s Bar, because it’s smaller and more
intimate
and will really give us a chance to interact with the audience,
which you don’t get in a big venue. So even if they’ve seen
the
show before, this one will have a totally different feel to it
that they shouldn’t miss."
Both divas—who, incidentally began their careers in intimate
music lounges much like the Captain’s Bar—are looking forward
to this show. "It will be like going back to our roots," says
an excited Zsa Zsa.
This time around, Kuh and Zsa Zsa will team up in a repeat of
their longrunning back to back concert. As such, the Captain’s Bar
audience can look forward to the two divas’ medley of their own
hit songs ("Paano Kita Mapasasalamatan," "Ikaw Lamang," "Kahit Na,"
"Dito Ba") and their medley of songs by noted songwriter
Michel Legrand (including the songs "Windmills of Your Mind,"
"The Summer Knows" and "A Piece of Sky"), among what are bound
to be some very memorable numbers.
And knowing Kuh and Zsa Zsa, this show is bound to be another visual
spectacle, with their fabulous costumes that always draw oohs and aahs
from their audiences around the world.
