At first Alice is met by tired eyes, but they soon brighten with awareness, and she replies to her words with a smile, "I want to stay with you. I'd miss Sandy and Carly, but I love you more and you know how to keep me alive." The child obediantly hops off the couch, clutching Alice's robe softly as she pads after, saying, "Do you have waffles in the freezer? I can't reach that high." True, the child was smaller than the norm. She could reach only the bottom part of the handle for the freezer door, but she had difficulties getting a grasp then heaving it open.
