If homeland security, or any other agency for that matter, is using any part of that base it'd be a miracle. So far as I know, and I was there a matter of days ago, the government has long forgotten about the existance of the former Chanute AFB. The only building they were even considering using again was White hall, and the talk of that died away years ago. The hospital is worth the trip just by itself, but that place goes back to around WWI, so there's some OLD buildings to explore as well.
