The time has come to commit to this summers great Fortune Bay Expedition. Crossing the big Lake to Wisconson, by way of the island chain. This will be a great time.

Expedition Itinerary



Start - Historic Town of Fayette, Michigan

We will spend the day relaxing at Fayette State Park, exploring the town and surrounding recreation area. We will launch from Fayette and travel to Poverty Island



Camp Alpha

Set up camp alpha on Poverty Island, we will explore the island and the exterior of the abandoned Poverty Island Light House. We will also record our visit through multiple mediums.

Rock Island State Park


The main body will break up into exploration teams and hike around the Rock Island State Park. Land Features to be explored include many trails. Members will record their exploration with GPS, marking features and trails. Time permitting a team may kayak to Washington Island.



Return to Fairport, Michigan

The team will paddle straight back to Fairport, Michigan while hopping islands.




Summary

This expedition is suited for intermediate paddlers with open water experience, and members should prepare for course by hiking and kayaking an average of 5-8 hours per week and practice open water rescue skills for 2 months before the course. All members should consult with their physician before considering this trip. Members will be required to paddle around 14-19 miles per day. It is recommended that all members arrange to team up with a partner for the trip. The team will offer opportunities for paddlers to practice rescue and open water skills. GPS usage and open water navigation should be practiced before embarking on the expedition.



There is no cost for the expedition.
