Both (or all who attend from one person) will get 30% off the course, that’s $35 instead of $50. For those who are attending, bring a headlamp, your GPS and food and water. (Map and Directions) are at http://www.fortunebaycompany.com/Courses/mapofNCTAschoolhouse.gif Or http://tinyurl.com/5lxsc Expeditionary Skills Workshop (Expeditioners Course) When: October 22-24th Time: We will meet, Friday evening October 22nd between 6-8pm, the course will last until Sunday October 24th at around 4-5 pm Where: Meet at the NCTA Schoolhouse (map and directions at http://tinyurl.com/5lxsc ) Course Location: To be Decided, Manistee National Forest Area Who: Instructor - Chuck Hayden, Fortune Bay Expeditionary Team, Expedition Leader, Chuck Hill, Fortune Bay Expeditionary Team, Expedition Leader, Bill Smith, Fortune Bay Expeditionary Team, Expedition Leader Why: The course will cover the basic skills involved in the sport of expeditions. This course is a workshop and team building exercise designed to introduce participants to many forms of land navigation, ropework, leadership, organization and wilderness travel and camping. Skills development will be used on future expeditions and activities. This course also requires an two overnight camps. What: Learn some useful navigation techniques, ropework, leadership, team standards and practices. The course demonstrates land navigation skills, ropework technique, campcraft, leadership, group organization skills, orienteering, map reading and ropework skills used in wilderness travel and rescue. The Course will cover: 1) Map Reading 2) Compass Reading 3) Global Positioning System use 4) Map Making standards and practices 5) Rappelling, Ascending, Traverse, Telfer Lower, knot tying, etc 6) River travel and rescue 7) Leadership, team dynamics and team structure 8) Campcraft 9) Camping, team building and a great time 5-8 hours of indoor classroom instruction, the rest is outdoors. What to bring: Fall clothing, hiking boots, food, drink, camp chair, load the vehicle - we will have them at the campsite. Contact Papa if you would like more suggestions.
