According to a technician that worked on the eco-challege north america 2003, we may not be able to reach a satellite from the canyon (high walls), and we don't know if he can make it yet. He may be in China.

So we don't know about the sat uplink.

But as far as pre expedition training, there will be a ropework and navigation class prior to the trip.
