“Really?” She asked with heavy breathing. He affected every bone in her body. “Most people find it improper. Thank you, sir. Thank you for letting me speak my mind without remand.”
She smiled. He had given her a compliment. He released her chin and looked at her a bit more before saying, “If you had your choice of what to do, what would you pick?”
She was surprised by his gentle treatment of her and prayed he was valid. She still did not know his true intentions, but wanted to discover them.
“Well, I very much enjoy being outdoors on my horse or wondering about the hills at my own home.”
He thought for a moment. He held out his hand to her and said, “Would you like to ride on my horse with me? I will take you somewhere absolutely beautiful.”
She stared into his eyes. “On your horse? With you? Will that not be improper in most eyes?”
He still held out his hand. “If you see it as improper, we shall not go and I will not hold it against you.” His soft slightly French accented voice intoxicated her ears. She was completely losing her senses. She looked into his eyes that awaited her decision. She could not believe that he was acting so unlike a gentleman, but she liked it very much
She smiled at him and took hold of his hand.
He led her down to the stables and never let go of her hand. His horse was already saddled up and standing in its stall. He took her over to the horse and let go her hand.
He petted his horse and whispered something that Nikita could not make out. He turned to her and said, “This is Storm. He has agreed to let you accompany us on our ride today.” Nikita smiled at his playfulness.
“Well tell him I am most obliged.” She petted the horse’s nose.
She had a concerned look on her face and asked him, “Lord Michael, we are without escort and we are to ride together. I can ride on my own for I am an accomplished rider.”
He did not wish to upset her. “May I ask who you are concerned about getting into trouble with?”
“I fear no trouble. I just find this behavior unlike what I expected. I do not wish your mother’s upset,” Nikita tried to voice her concerns as honestly as she could.
Michael held her hand and led her towards the horse. “Nikita, I know you do not care what my mother thinks. It is okay, I know this is not normal English gentry behavior. I typically enjoy being adventurous and I have sensed you do as well. So let us get to know each other in a more unorthodox manner. If my mother does discover our adventure, I will jump into your defense. Thank you though for being concerned about it.”
She nodded and was impressed with his convincing arguments. He gave her a hand to help her onto the horse and she shook her head no. She mounted the horse without his help and reached for his hand. “Are you coming?” She asked.
“Of course.” He climbed up behind her and took the reins. “Please allow me to hold you Nikita.” She nodded and gave him permission. He reached his arm around her waist to hold her in place. She molded back into him and enjoyed the sensation of feeling her back against his chest. She never felt comfortable touching a man, but she seemed to perfectly fit with him..
“Are you ready? He asked. She nodded. He made sure he held her tightly. She smelled so good. He wanted to bury his face into her beautiful long blond hair and inhale her magnificent scent. She held his hand tightly around his waist and he took off up into the countryside of his estate. She felt so good against him. He was pleased that he felt this good about his future wife.
He had never met any woman as adventurous as Nikita. He felt strangely comfortable with her and had this urge to protect her. She was so young, yet mature for her age. She stood on her own two feet and let no one tell her how to behave. This young woman in his arms was unlike any woman he had ever encountered. She was completely intriguing and appealing to him. He never thought he would enjoy the time getting to know his betrothed, but he had been gravely mistaken in his prior thoughts.
She threw her head back against his shoulder and enjoyed the scenery around her. It was indeed a most breathtaking countryside. She was pleased that Michael had an adventurous side and hoped they would become fast friends. He seemed easy going, yet strong. She was happy that she enjoyed his company because it would make the time going much easier before their wedding came along.
She kept forgetting that this was to be her husband for life. Although things seemed pleasant now, he may change once they were man and wife. She honestly did not know what to expect. She started to hope slightly that they may end up have a marriage with some hint of happiness. She would have to wait and see. She did not yet dare to hope.
He stopped the horse in a small clearing in the woods. There was a beautiful waterfall and ducks swimming in the little stream. The grass was very green and the sun shined strongly through the tall trees. Nikita found this place to be very relaxing and she smiled. “It is beautiful.”
