Nikita knew it was time to walk down the large staircase to be introduced as the future wife of Lord Michael Samuelle. She wished she had met him before all of this grandeur because it was a very awkward feeling not knowing who he was. She would be walking into a room and he would be among the crowd. She hoped she would be able to at least spot him out to observe his facial reactions. Would he be excited or bored?
She stepped in front of the announcer. She had a slight cloak over her dress. She whispered her title to him and breathed in heavily as she was ready to be announced the room filled with a sea of people.
“Nikita Georgiana Wolfe, daughter of Lady Madeline, the countess of Wick ham and Lord Paul, Earl of Rosemund of Sussex. ”
Everyone in the room turned round to look at her and she stared back at them with confidence. Her eyes smiled with excitement and lit up after she had been announced.
Michael heard the announcer and immediately focused his eyes to the light blond girl standing at the top of the staircase. She looked out over the people with glorious shining blue eyes. She removed her cloak to reveal a blue dress that fit her bodice like a glove.
He could not breathe for a moment and was in shock. She was as beautiful as an angel as his brother described. Michael could not take his eyes off of her. He was in utter surprise to this woman standing at the top of the stairs.
She slowly made her way down the stairs and bowed her head slightly to the people who were closest to her. She carried herself so well and she had the entire room focused on her every step. She tried to lightly scan the crowd for her future husband, but could not find him. Was he even in this room?
Her father came up and took her hand. He was so proud of the way she was acting. Not a word was being spoken in the room. Everyone was enamored with this gorgeous creature. Lady Adrian started some conversation to break the silence announcing to everyone that there was a string quartet ready to start playing in the ball room. Some people did leave to dance and others stayed to mingle and gossip about the newest arrival.
Michael stayed in the corner with his friend to wait to meet his betrothed. Michael had not taken his eyes off of her. He did expect her to be a bit handsome, but this girl was no ordinary girl. She was a young woman that God seemed to have put on this earth to exemplify the word beautiful. His heart was beating a mile a minute. He had seen many women in his life, but she glistened like a pearl shimmering in the sand.
His friend Smith also was enlightened by the physical attributes of this young lady. He noticed that Michael was very preoccupied. “Wow Michael! I did not know a woman’s beauty had this strong affect on you.”
Michael blinked back to reality and looked at him. He gained his composure and started to think a bit more clearly. “Yes, well I am just a bit surprised at her looks. Looks are not everything though. A girl as beautiful as she is has to be full of pride or some secrets. She has a lot of confidence and knows she is beautiful”
“Yes. Well Michael that beautiful girl is going to be your wife. I would not complain one bit.” Michael could barely hear his friend talking because he was completely focused on Nikita.
Lady Adrian led Paul and his daughter towards Michael’s direction. Nikita had said hello to dozens of people. She barely knew any of these people and hated their snooty attitude and unimportant questions. She looked in the direction of the man standing in the corner. It was him. The man she had seen outside riding his horse in the morning.
Their eyes met for the first time and she felt like electricity was traveling throughout the veins of her body. His glare was piercing her inner soul and she was surprised at the magnetic attraction she felt as they walked towards him. He had clear green eyes that held a strong, powerful look. She found herself attracted to his strong masculine attitude that was plastered across his perfect face. She kept telling herself not to get caught up in looks, but the sensation she felt overcame all of her senses.
Adrian said to Michael, “Please say hello to Nikita, Michael.” Michael did not speak at first. He kept telling himself that he was just attracted to her beauty, but his draw to this woman was intoxicating.
Adrian nudged Michael out of his trance and he once again returned to reality. He bowed to Nikita and took her hand. It was as soft as baby’s skin. “Hello Nikita. I am honored to finally meet you.”
She smiled at him and enjoyed the feeling of his moist lips on her skin. It sent jolts through her body. “You too, Sir. I am honored as well. The party is grand and I thank you for having it.”
Her voice was beautiful and she had no pride in it whatsoever. He watched her lips moved as she spoke and hung onto every word that came out of them. . He did not know what to say. He felt he could stare at her face for hours. He could not tell what was causing this electrifying feeling in his body. The silence between them went on for too long. Michael wanted some sort of physical contact with this girl and thought the best way would be to ask her to dance.
“Would you to care to dance, Miss Nikita?” He extended his hand and she took it.
He led her onto the dance floor and held her waist. She put her hand up to his shoulder and let him lead her around the dance floor. Their eyes met each other and they just stared. She felt dizzy inside and weirdly felt excited to be in his arms. She could not see or hear anyone around her because it felt like they were floating on clouds as they danced.
He danced perfectly and Nikita felt comfortable. Their parents looked on in extreme approval.
Smith went and stood by Lady Lisa who had a very dirty look upon her face. He tried to get her attention. “I would not fear Lisa, not yet at least.”
She looked at him and whispered, “He cannot keep his eyes off of her. Look at her, Brighton. She is beautiful.”
He tried to reassure her. “Lisa, beauty wears off very fast once you get to know someone. Michael is a bit enamored with her looks, but he also had a lot of wine tonight.”
Smith would say anything to prevent Lisa from causing a catastrophe.
None of this talk made her feel better. Michael was still attracted to this new girl and that it was bothered her immensely.
