Having finally arrived at the coffeehouse, Nikita ordered a double latte and a slice of cinnamon pound cake and sat down at a table next to the window to wait for Sebastien. Poor Sebastien, he was not insightful like the pretty Medium and was not aware of his role as a pawn in Nikita’s most anticipated destiny. Nikita decided to ignore the apparition she had just witnessed and concentrate on the present, after all this Simone woman had warned her not to try to alter the future. If the barbarians were invading everyone’s lives, then so be it – Nikita was not here to affect the world, just influence it with her own personal style.
She thought about her mother, to say that Roberta had been a poor excuse of a parent was to state the obvious. Although Nikita felt sorry for the woman who had given her this particular life, her natural mother held little importance in the blonde’s identity. Nikita was a woman who could count the major mistakes of her life with the fingers of one hand; her mother needed both hands and feet to keep track of her own failings. Regretfully, both women's errors involved loosing their head to a man or another and in the process loosing their individuality. And there lay the essence of Roberta’s parenting skills, which she obviously sucked at and of Nikita's peculiarities, which she didn't seem to completely embrace. Ah my friends, sometimes the Barbarians are not strangers but close relations whose only purpose is to f**k with us.
The young woman thought that although she may have lived through pretty rough times in her short life, she had always been glad to be alive. And, given her knowledge that she had lived before, she understood that regrets were just plain silly. Her gift, her vision and her spiritual guides lead her to belief that someday she would reach a degree of happiness only known to few. This promise from the world beyond gave her a direction and a constant focus that few her age either wanted or had.
She was well aware of her previous lives, even before Simone had made her appearance. She was in total understanding that what she was experiencing was something that had also transpired in other times she had traveled through before. And although all the personalities who had revealed themselves to her at this point in time seemed foreign to her; she was sure that pretty soon her raison d'etre would unfold before her.
Nikita was conscious that she had loved before with an intensity that made mere mortals weep. And now she hoped and prayed that she would meet her soul mate in this lifetime and finally live that affaire d’amour to its extraordinary conclusion. She was aware that her previous lives had been rehearsals for the final performance and was suspect that finally this was the big one. In other words she was living her award winning final curtain.
Simone had made her jealous with her tale of love – even if short lived, and even more with her enthusiastic acceptance of her own state of affairs - death. But Nikita knew that once she found that love, well – then and only then would she reach the end of her journey with all her markers paid off and commence her ‘ever-aftering'. Just like Simone obviously had, and Nikita could hardly wait!
Suddenly a name came to the beautiful woman's mind as the only constant in all of her former lives - 'Michael'. Green expresive eyes looked into her soul as her body gained a warmth and a sense of security. And the roller-coaster that had been the last few days no longer seemed to frustrate her... Michael.
