Jim checked his watch again. Steve was supposed to have met him fifteen minutes earlier. Their target was already on sight and inside of the cafe. Any minute now Jim expected her to come back out and leave, and they would have missed their window of opportunity.

Just as he was about to give up and go in on his own, Steve came running up.

“Sorry.” He handed Jim the trackers he’d brought with him.

“Where were you? Why didn’t you answer the phone?”

“That’s why I was late.” Steve explained while he caught his breath. “I got off the subway and reached 77th when I realized I didn’t have the phone.”

“You lost the phone!”

“I didn’t lose it. This lady bumped into me on the subway and she was carrying all these bags that spilled everywhere. It must have dropped out of my pocket while I was helping her.”

“I can’t believe you. Maybe I should give you the tracker since you’re so good at bumping into people.”

“She bumped me, not the other way around.”

“Yeah. Whatever. Let’s go. If we don’t hurry she’ll be out and then we’ll have to wait until tomorrow. We can’t afford any delays.” Jim pushed Steve in front of him as they headed toward the café down the street. “Try not to screw this up, please?”

“Relax,” Steve replied, and grinned. “We’ll get in. Have some faith. By the way, I like the goatee. New look?”

Jim ignored Steve as they walked quickly along. He could be so irritating at times. If it weren’t for the fact that Steve was his brother Jim doubted he would even be able to stand him. He was too careless for his own good, especially considering the line of work they were in. Jones would not tolerate mistakes.

They stopped outside of the café and Steve waited for Jim to enter first. No sooner had they walked through the door then they ran into their target. Steve bumped into Jim from behind, causing him to nearly knock down the young woman.

“I’m so sorry.” Jim reached out a hand to steady her as Steve bent down to pick up the package that she had dropped. “Are you alright?”

“Yes.” The woman smiled back and took the package from Steve. “Sorry about that. I should have watched where I was going.”

“No it was our fault,” Jim replied. “Or rather my brother’s.” He pointed over his shoulder to Steve who stood grinning unapologetically.

The young woman’s smile grew larger. “You’re twins. Cool.”

“I’m Jim and this is my brother Steve.”

The woman shook his extended hand and then Steve’s. “Nice to meet you guys. I’m Carla.”
