I meant to put this at the bottom of the chapter as a footnote, but here it is now.

Bertrand du Guesclin is real, and he really did emerge in this decade as such a talented military leader that by 1670, he will be made Captian-General of all of France.

Not only that, but the lore about him, that he was thrown out of his father's house for being too ugly to be a knight, and that he earned his place back through glory in the tournmant while wearing borrowed armor - is *real* lore about him. There is even a big horse statue of him in Brittany with the story inscribed on the base!
