Little did Nikita and Michael know that with this trip to the African continent, their lives were about to take a turn and go from blissful ignorance to hell in a hand basket. Diving into a well of confusion and total chaos the couple spent their first day, without knowing it, awfully close to each other at either ends of the same compound. Their lives were no longer their own someone else had the command key to control their destiny, their future and even their past.

Everything that the couple knew as their truth was about to become a lie they could not escape or ignore. The secrets to Michael and Nikita's birthrights, which the black stone rings held would soon become the glue that held these two together and separated them from everyone else. There had been nothing up to now that could have prepared them for what lay ahead and neither love, nor passion or the suggestion of impropriety among siblings, would aid them in destroying the legacy of the Van Damn's.

-----

Nikita sat outside the wrap around porch watching in the distant night sky a shower of lights descending slowly towards the earth. The sounds of the open savanna that lay around her, instead of scaring her, somehow soothed her inner child with the whistling resonance of tall grass rustling. The breeze was warm; the moon was full and the view spectacular, so the pretty blonde enjoyed the solitude of the evening while thinking of the prospects that lay ahead and moved slowly to sit under an enormous tree.

As was her habit, Nikita fiddled with the ring that hung around her neck in a flimsy chain and sighed while resting her head on the back of the rattan chair he now occupied. Her eyes closed with the sweet release of sleep and she napped contently under the canopy of the willow leaves. She was no longer obsessing with the thought of Michael walking past her at the airport, or the fact that the passion they had shared meant nothing to him and so much to her; she just relaxed.

In the meantime, Michael Samuelle walked outside of his cottage in the Anamnesis Clinic compound, having made the decision to take back control of his life. Memory was something essential but to someone like Michael, a thing he could work around if necessary. He wanted to regroup, read the letter in his pocket and get ready before his treatment started in the morning. He was a man of decision and discipline and was not used to depending on anyone or anything to resolve the stumbling blocks in his path.

Michael was not going to let the loss of his short-term memory disrupt his life any longer and started in the quest to find the reason he was in the predicament he found himself in. He walked and walked far from his cottage and towards a flame he could see burning ahead and heard a snore coming from a blonde woman sleeping under a tree. Hanging precariously close by the woman's head, a snake coiled to a branch and ready to strike. Michael rushed to the woman's side and managed to snatch the snake as it plummeted towards the blonde who by now voicelessly screamed.

Michael propelled the snake away from Nikita, tossing it as far as his well-toned arm could throw it, as a grateful Nikita embraced him sobbing. "Michael, thank God, you saved my life."

Michael stroked her head and asked, "Are you alright?" But once the reality of her words struck him, he stepped back and asked, "How do you know my name?"

Nikita noticed the confused expression on the handsome man's face and hesitated, then laughed, "What do you mean? Of course I know your name, I screamed it enough the nights we spent together."

Michael stepped back further from her and asked, "We know each other? Please, tell me when we met, have I known you for a long time."

Nikita grabbed a fist full of tee shirt and pulled him towards her kissing him hard. At first Michael was too much in shock and refused the caress. But then Nikita's tongue convinced him otherwise and they intensified the kiss with both lips partaking. Her arms again embraced him relishing in his feel and she continued the kiss with a now very willing participant.

When the woman was finished with the powerful kiss she raised her eyebrows and asked, "Now, do you remember me?"

Michael's eyelids slowly shuttered and now engulfed in Nikita's arms said, "I am so sorry. Please don't take it personally, I have short term memory loss and I am here to find a diagnosis."

He paused as he heard her gasp. He again stepped away from her and watched as she covered her mouth in bewilderment at his admission and then asked him, "Is that what happened, is that why you left?"

Michael ignored her question not knowing the response and desperately needing answers to questions of his own, "How do we know each other?" He then pointed towards the cottage, "Do you live there?" Staring intently into her deep blue eyes in a voice almost plaintiff he then asked, "Please I must know, where have we met before?"

She smiled shyly as replied, "No I don't live here all the time, I am just visiting and yes we know each other well, furthermore...."

Before Nikita could finish her answer she heard Adrian calling her name and Michael repeated in his mind – Nikita, finding no recollection to the unusual name. Once Nikita responded quickly the older woman’s call, Nikita turned back to face Michael and took one of his hands into hers. She ran her thumb over Michael's ring finger and caressed the ring and then with her other hand she showed him the identical ring dangling from her neck. Michael’s eyes intently followed her every move urgently seeking recognition where there was none.

She squeezed the hand she was holding gently and whispered again, "Trust me Michael. I'll help you, I promise."

Somehow Michael felt he should trust the pretty woman before him who was still not letting go of his hand. An elderly couple was approaching them and he heard the female say in a jovial and contrived voice, "Ah, I see you found Michael."
