In reply to: Lynuslinus 's message, "Whispered Identities - Chapters 221 & forward" on Sunday, July 10, 08:59:36pm

Michael sat at the main computer in systems. Justin Bernikoff rocked back and forth in a chair beside him. Giving Justin his classic stare, Michael shook his head and returned to working on the mission profile.

“Do you understand how this works now Mr. Bernikoff?” questioned Michael.

“Hey man, please call me Download....if you don’t mind....and yeah, I got the rhythm. So the field operatives will be able to communicate with us here at the villa and I monitor their movements....right?”

“Yes....I will be with you at all times to run tactical. You just need to send and receive intel.”

The heavy door to computer systems swung open; Nikita and Adrian entered. Michael pushed back his chair and motioned for Download to continue running the profile. Nikita, touched Michael’s shoulder and leaned over to whisper.

“How are you feeling? Do you still have the headache you woke up with?”

“Yes....a pain behind my eyes.....but I’ll be fine. Have you and Adrian gone over the profile?”

“Yes we did. What do you think about Adrian setting up a private office in the media room....the staff can take the computer games to their rooms.”

“The library would be a better location....leave the staff a space for recreation.”

Nikita smiled. “How very employee friendly you’ve become Michael. But I agree, the library will work.”

Adrian was working quietly at a corner computer and looked up. “I’ve located transport for all segments of the mission, Michael. Everything is in place. Did Nikita mention about an office?”

“Yes....I think the library would be better for you....have Rene oversee moving whatever equipment you need. Is there anything in the profile that might be problematic, Adrian?”

Adrian glanced at Nikita. “The profile is sound and the agents Mr Jones sent have background experience for this type of mission.”

Nikita stood massaging Michael’s neck and shoulders. “Did you take any of the painkillers the doctor gave you, Michael?”

“No, I need to remain alert....the drugs make me drowsy.”

“That’s the point....I’ll get them....take at least one....maybe it will help the headache.”

Nikita turned and left the room. Adrian pulled her chair up to Michael. “I’m glad we have a few moments to talk without Nikita here.....I know you are not well enough to lead the teams but are you certain you want Nikita to do this.”

“If there were any other way....I don’t want her to go....but we have no choice Adrian. Nikita is the only person with experience to perform this mission.”

“I agree. But are you certain you want to take the risk of.....possibly losing her.” Adrian glanced over at Download. “Justin....would you please go and get yourself a coffee....Mr. Samuelle and I need to discuss some matters. I’ll advise you when to return.”

“Huh? Yeah, sure....you want some coffee too?”

Michael shook his head. “No thank you,” replied Adrian.

As the door to systems swung shut, Adrian rose and began pacing the room. “I know how you two feel about each other Michael....and it does not seem fair to put either in harms way. Maybe we can contact Mr. Jones again and insist he send an agent with leadership skills. Besides, if he knew his daughter was going to lead the mission, I’m certain he would comply.”

“You didn’t inform Mr. Jones that Nikita is team leader?”

“No, Nikita insisted I not advise him.”

Michael rubbed his forehead and closed his eyes; the pain was increasing. “I hate this Adrian....sending Nikita into danger....but we must respect her wishes and she has decided to lead the team.”

“Very well. When will everything be in place to go?”

“Now that you have all the transport segments arranged....all that remains is to meet with the operatives and go over the profile. Rene has arranged munitions and communication devices....I would say....tonight.”

“Hummmm..... . are you sure you don’t want the team to leave in the morning.....I mean, then you and Nikita could have the evening together.”

Michael forced a smiled. “Thank you for your thoughts but the sooner we undertake the mission, the quicker it will be over.”

The door swung open and Nikita walked up to Michael handing him a tablet and bottle of water. “ Here....take one please....you are such a bad patient.”

Michael took the pill and sipped some water while reaching for Nikita’s fingers. He kissed the back of her hand. “Thank you.”

“Are you just about finished working Michael....’cause you should try to rest.”

He looked up at her. “Yes, and after meeting with the team to go over the profile....you and the team will leave tonight.”

“Tonight? But I thought we wouldn’t go for at least another couple of days....I mean....”

“Everything is ready Nikita....but maybe you need more time to.....”

“No! No....I’m ready. When do you want the team assembled?”

“One hour....in the media room. Have Rene advise them to come, ready to leave within the hour after the meeting.”

“Fine....I’ll .....I’ll contact him,” stammered Nikita.

“Leave that to me Nikita....stay put...I’ll go,” interjected Adrian.

After Adrian left the room, Michael stood, took Nikita by the shoulders and pulled her body to his. His eyes locked with hers. “Are you absolutely certain you want to do this Nikita?”

“We’ve been over this....I will lead the team. Now, if I had my druthers....I’d rather be back in the cabin with you surrounded by snow.”

“I will be in constant contact with you. Once you and the team reach Bordeaux, you will proceed to the Gallerie de Paris.....monsieur Perignon shouldn’t need much convincing to co-operate in finding the Briochette estate. Ernesto Briochette is Raphael Esperanzo’s right hand man.....he’s been working with the Medusa Society since it’s inception.”

“What have you done to help convince Perignon to co-operate?”

“Photographs of him with a prostitute in Marseille....his wife is a local government official and will not be pleased seeing her husband with a lady of ill repute.”

“Was he with a prostitute?”

“No, but his wife will believe the photographs to be legitimate. Once at the estate, locate his Blackberry PDA, then have your team members kill Briochette.”

“.....team members....why am I not to kill him?”

“I know you Nikita....killing in cold blood is not to your liking.”

She smiled. “True....but if I order the team to kill, I should do likewise.”

“There will be no time for decision making. You need to get into the estate, confiscate his PDA, and have Briochette killed and leave immediately....with no trace....understand.”

“Michael....I am....was, a level three operate with MI-6 and I have killed before.” She pulled away from him. “Now, I need to go prepare before meeting with the team.”

Michael stepped up to her and pulled her forcibly to his body; kissing her passionately. Nikita sucked in her breath, startled by his sudden action; she could feel her body responding to his touch. She longed to remain with the feel of his arms wrapped tightly around her. Michael lowered his hands to her bottom and drew her hips into his; she felt his hardness pressing against her while his tongue searched her mouth. Suddenly Rene’s voice pierced the room over an intercom.

“Michael....the team is assembled in the media room....shall I issued them munitions and communicators now?”

Michael released Nikita and walked to the intercom. “Yes, proceed. Nikita and I will be there shortly.”

He turned and stood watching Nikita; she reached out her hands and took his. Their eyes remained locked as Michael drew her hands to his lips. Softly, he kissed each finger, never taking his eyes from her face. Nikita fought back tears as she spoke in a husky voice.

“I love you Michael.”

“I love you too, Nee-kee-ta,” he whispered.
