Nikita and the team crept up to the compound wall. There was a tall oak tree leaning against the wall, its limbs curling up above the top of the wall, but not extending over it. Reilly made a foothold for Nikita and boosted her up the first tree limb. She swung her leg over, pulling herself into a sitting position, her back against the tree. Leaning forward and downward, her hand balancing her body on the limb until she was prone, Nikita studied the wall in the shadow of the tree.

Grooved into the surface of concrete wall, was a network of wire coated plastic tubing through which air and current flowed. The electricity was of sufficient voltage to inhibit animals from gnawing at the plastic and the air pressure was calibrated to set off alarms the instant a given amount of weight touched the tubes. Nikita looked back down the wall at Reilly and waved him back.

“Stand down Reilly, I’m coming back.”

“What? What’s the problem?”

Nikita didn’t respond; she swung her leg over the tree limb and jumped to the ground near Reilly’s feet.

“Come on....back to the van...everyone!” she whispered hoarsely.

Nikita pulled the van door closed once the team had all entered.

“We need more specs on this security....and go in after dark. The electric current in the wiring is very sophisticated....more so than what Michael sent as specs.”

“Well, we better not sit here then,” responded Reilly. “Drake....get us out of here....go find some nice quiet place.”

Rice looked worried. “We could...go back to the safe house....then deal with Perignon....tranq him again or something.”

Nikita looked at her watch. “He’s right...we can’t sit around in this van until it get’s dark and besides, the computer there will permit more accurate information on the security system. Drake....take us to the back entrance of the safe house.”

Once back at the safe house, the men filed into the main room and sat adjusting equipment or stood looking somewhat confused. Dalton’s man, Rossiter strode over to Nikita who sat booting up the computer.

“Hey....don’t mean to complain but this here mission seems a little disorganized....what’s the problem....why didn’t we go in and get the job done?”

Nikita looked up. “The security system on the wall is more complicated than we anticipated....we’ll get more intel and go when it’s dark.”

Rossiter shrugged and wandered back across the room; dropping onto the floor, he reached for a bag of chips and leaned over to another one of Dalton’s men.

“Blondie hasn’t got a clue what she’s doing, man! All we need to do is go over the damn wall, pop the guy and leave....she’s being overly careful ....probably never done anything like this before.”

“Samuelle must think she can perform or he wouldn’t have sent her.”

Rossiter laughed. “Perform yeah....with her legs open and a dick plugged in....that’s what she’s good for.”

“Hummmm...yes, I wouldn’t mind having that body under me.”

Reilly handed Nikita a steaming cup of coffee he had heated on their small stove.

“Thanks Reilly....the satellite connection is scrambled....I can’t get through to Michael.”

“Sorry Nikita, the digitals I took of the security wall....well, I thought they’d show enough for Michael to calculate the deactivation method.”

“You couldn’t have seen the multi-strand tubing without getting on top of the wall like I did. Maybe I’ll try just using the mobile phone to contact Michael.”

“I thought he wanted the satellite computer connection only....in case someone is tracking cell calls.”

“Hummmm...yes but if I can’t connect online, then I should try the mobile.”

Reilly squatted beside Nikita and smiled. “Kind of primitive equipment we’re using, huh...not like the good old days at MI-6.”

“True....but we’ll cope.” She glanced over at Dalton’s men. “Keep an eye on Rossiter and the other Dalton men....I don’t think they have their hearts in this mission....it’s all about money with them.”

“Yeah sure....unfortunate we need the manpower....I’d feel better if they weren’t here.”

“Have the men eat something....as soon as it’s dark...we go and afterwards the flight back to Faro will take all night with no food.....and check Perignon again....we don’t want to overdose him. We’ll drop him near his gallery after we hit the villa.”

“Okay.”

Nikita attempted to contact Michael over the next three hours - no satellite connection could be made. She wandered to the window and watched as dusk settled over the city. She glanced at her watch repeatedly.

One more time....I’ll try one more time to contact Michael...then....we go.

Still unable to make contact with Michael, Nikita ordered the men to gather their gear and return to the van. As they drove through the streets, she pulled out her night vision goggles.

“Okay, listen up. This is going to be somewhat more difficult going in at night...you all have night vision equipment....and I’m going to figure out the best way to de-activate the security tubing on the wall....then follow me over the wall but only in the precise location I’ve gone over...do you understand.”

Rossiter shrugged. “Why not just blast through the main gate....blow the guards apart with some explosives...then go in the villa?”

Reilly looked over at Nikita. “May I answer this one Nikita?”

She smiled. “Please do.”

“Look Rossiter....if you had any real training in this line of work, you’d understand why we can’t do that....now just follow directions....alright?”

Dalton’s men smirked and looked at Rossiter.

The van pulled into the shadows a short distance from the villa. Nikita motioned to go as the van door swung open. Upon reaching the same oak tree near the wall, Reilly once again boosted Nikita up onto the limb. She leaned forward, balancing while examining the tubing.

The alarms are undoubtedly received in a scanning room in the villa and no doubt pinpoint the place the tubing is penetrated. I can’t cut the tube....if one strand is shorted out, there are five or six others to back it up and the pressure of a knife crossing the wire coating is enough to set off the alarm.

Nikita had spent her time at the safe house, thinking about how to tackle the security tubing. She’d had plenty of time while waiting to contact Michael - and knew she must undertake her own plan if he could not be reached. The idea came to her as she watched one of the operatives light a cigarette with a lighter. By melting the plastic tubing and releasing the air without the pressure of a blade, the alarm would be disabled. The only alarm set off would show a malfunction.

Nikita pulled out the borrowed cigarette lighter, tested it and applied the flame to the tube. There was a crackling of electricity, then an explusion of air as the tube turned black and melted. She twisted around and performed the same manoeuver in three other places. Motioning to Reilly and the team, she placed her feet on the wall and lowered herself into the villa compound. Nikita dropped to her knees and peered around as the other men crept over the wall and jumped onto the ground. They darted across the compound towards the villa; suddenly, two guards spotted the advance team members and raised their weapons. Two shots with silencers quickly dropped the guards.

Nikita and Reilly crouched under a rear window; Nikita slipped a tiny camera on an extension arm, through the opening in the glass that Reilly had cut. She nodded to Reilly and he sprayed a liquid explosive around the window frame. There was a muffled popping sound and Reilly reached up and pulled away the frame. They jumped through the opening and crouched in what appeared to be a library. Nikita motioned for Reilly to advance to the door while whispering instructions to the other team members.

“Hold your positions and take out any guards...wait for your egress instructions.”

Reilly motioned Nikita forward. “No sign of any one....where do you think Briochette is....this villa is massive, we could spend all night checking out rooms.”

Nikita glanced at the illuminated dial of her watch. “You’re right....and now would be an excellent time to have some of that sophisticated MI-6 tracer equipment. We better bring in a couple more of your agents to help search.”

“Right. Evans...Milner.....back entrance...blown window west side...now.”

Within a few minutes the two Center agents had joined Nikita and Reilly. Nikita motioned them to their hiding place in the room. “You two take the main floor...contact us immediately if you locate Briochette....keep sharp for inside security and take them out. Do not, I repeat, do not kill Briochette...we need him alive to tell us where his PDA is.”

The men nodded and slipped from the library as Nikita and Reilly started up a long staircase. The pair dashed from room to room down the hallway. Suddenly Nikita stopped and motioned to Reilly; music could be heard coming from a master bedroom at the end of the hall. They darted quietly to the entrance and stood either side of the door. Reilly nodded at Nikita and kicked in the door; they dove into the room, crouching low with their guns pointing in all directions. In a massive circular bed, Ernesto Briocette lay naked on top of a young girl; she screamed and pushed him away. Briocette yelled and struggled to reach a gun on the night table.

“Who the hell are you!” he screamed “Get the fuck out of here.....you are dead!”

Reilly quickly retrieved the gun and shoved Briocette to the floor. Nikita looked at the young girl who was attempting to cover herself and was sobbing hysterically. She grabbed a blanket and threw it towards the girl.

“Cover yourself up....we’re not here to hurt you.” She wandered to the wardrobe and pulled out a dressing gown and tossed it to Briocette on the floor.

“Best cover yourself also Briocette. And we’ll be out of your way as soon as you give us your PDA.”

“What! Get the fuck out of here....who are you people!”

Reilly pulled Briocette up, tossing the dressing gown in his face. “We don’t ask twice...where’s the PDA!”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about...I don’t have any bloody PDA! Now get out before my staff blow you apart!”

Reilly strode over to the girl and grabbed her by the hair. “Look, I don’t want to kill your girlfriend here but if we don’t get that PDA, she’s dead!”

“Go ahead...kill her...she just a piece of ass anyway.”

“Ernesto! What....what are you saying?” she cried.

Nikita walked up to the girl and pulled her aside. “Look....he doesn’t give a damn about you...you can see that....if you know where he keeps his personal PDA....tell us.”

“What...why....he has....he told me he loved me....had left his wife for me....!” she screamed.

“This is becoming tiring Briocette,” yelled Reilly. “Now I guess I’ll start with body parts...just wounding you of course....let’s see....how about that pathetic dick of yours....not much to aim at but if I shoot close in....I should be able to.....”

“STOP! NO....don’t kill me....it’s....it’s in the wall safe...the library!”

“Crap...that’s where we started! Come on old boy,” smirked Reilly as he began dragging Briocette towards the door. Nikita followed, grasping the girl and shoving her out into hallway. Nikita spoke into her comm unit to the other agents in the villa. “We’ve retrieved the target...go back to the library and wait for us.”

Upon reaching the library, Reilly shoved Briocette into the room and thrust his gun into Briocette’s face.

“Open the damn safe now!”

Briocette staggered to the far side of the library, lifted off an oil painting and began to open the safe. Reilly stood at his side as Briocette began to pull the safe door open. Suddenly Reilly smashed the butt of his gun against Briocette head, dropping him to the floor.

Glancing back at Nikita, he smirked. “Don’t want any unexpected surprises popping out the safe.” He reached in and grabbed a bundle of euros, tossed them to the floor and reached farther into the safe, retrieving a glock.

“See, I knew there was a surprise in here.”

“Is the PDA there?” questioned Nikita.

“Ahhhhh.....yes....here’s a PDA....I’ll check to see if the intel we want is here.” Reilly punched at the PDA and smiled. “This is it...here take it...I’ll deal with him.”

Nikita took the PDA and looked at Briocette who was attempting to get to his feet. She motioned to the other agents. “Leave now....team two undertake egress now.”

The girl clutched the blanket around her and sobbed uncontrollably; Nikita glanced at her and Briocette who had collapsed on the floor again. She stared at Reilly.

“The girl is an innocent....and we have what we came for...the don’t need to die.”

“That is not the profile....and you know it,” glared Reilly. “I’ll deal with it...you just need to leave....now.”

“But...there is no need for this to happen.....” stammered Nikita.

“Now Nikita! Go!,” ordered Reilly. “I’ve been given a second layer command to the profile...by Michael....now just go....GO!”

Nikita breathed heavily and stared at Reilly, then turned and made for the open window. Once in the courtyard, she could see the other operatives running for the egress point, shooting at the remaining guards. As she reached the wall, she grabbed the rope left by the team and struggled over the top. As she was about to drop to the other side, she heard two gunshots, only these were not silenced; within seconds she spotted Reilly running towards the wall.
