Nikita was pacing up and down in their villa suite. It was late evening and she had not heard from Michael. As he was purchasing a new cell phone, she had no number in which to reach him.

Perhaps she had been wrong confiding in Adrian...telling her about recent events at the villa...Dalton’s death and Michael’s plan to continue the hunt for Medusa. But why should she not trust Adrian? The woman had been in hiding...and her reason for wanting to assist them seemed plausible....

“Damn you Michael! Phone!”

Nikita peered at her watch: it was after midnight. She wandered into the bedroom and began slipping off her clothes; she reached for her silk nightgown, frowned and tossed it aside. An oversized t-shirt would do for tonight; the nightgown brought back memories of last nights lovemaking. She lay in bed attempting to continue with her book; she felt wide awake but could not concentrate on the words or become drowsy.

Perhaps I’m becoming one of those women who must be made love to before falling asleep. Oh, gawd Nik...you are pathetic.

She re-read the same paragraph in the book over three more times before placing the book on the night table, turned off the light and lay staring at the ceiling. The sounds of pounding surf in the distance was the only sound penetrating the night; the villa was as quiet as a tomb. Sometime after 3 am, Nikita feel into a troubled sleep.

She could feel Michael caressing her breasts, his lips tracing lines across her face, his hands stroking between her legs; she moaned in her sleep. Michael began to drift away as a continuing sound nagged at her sub-conscious. Nikita awoke with a start.

“Damn! A dream...and just when it was getting good.....” She looked over at the blinking blue light from her phone, now aware of the incessant ringing. Grabbing the phone, she struggled to sit up in the bed.

“Yes! Michael? No...no, it’s fine...yes I was sleeping but I’m so glad you called...I was....”

Michael sounded tired and spoke in a whisper. “I was going to wait until I thought you were up but then.....”

“What time is it?” she questioned.
“Six am....sorry I woke you Nikita.”

“I’ve been worried Michael....is everything alright? Has Alberto regained consciousness?”

“No....the doctors say he could remain in this state indefinitely. I will stay in Paris two more days, then return. How are you?”

“I’m fine....I...I have a surprise for you...something to tell you but not over the phone.”

“Nikita...I don’t like surprises...you should know that by now...tell me.”

Nikita snickered. “Don’t worry Michael...I’m still not pregnant...but I do have some important news...but it can wait until you return...I’m certain you will be pleased.”

“Have you come up with some intel on the computer...like we talked about?”

“Michael Samuelle...you should know better than discuss information over insecure mobile phones...you’ll just have to wait...it’s good news.”

“Very well. I will see you at the end of the week....I...I miss you.”

“I miss you too,” she giggled. “Even though it’s only been one day....seems much longer.”

“Yes...yes it does...try to go back to sleep now Nikita.”

“Right,” she smiled to herself. “Bye.”
