Well, I have finally finished watching the Harry Potter movies (except for the new one coming out soon--about time huh) and I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on which character/characters Robert Newton would have been a good fit for in these movies, had they been around in his day. I personally think that he would have been good in almost any character (except the women and children roles) given his versatility as an actor. I like the idea of Hagrid, Snape or even Dumbledore. And how about Lucius Malfoy?
Any opinions?

Glad to hear you're caught up, and good question.
My first choice would be Madeye Moody! I pictured him so much differently in the books than they portrayed him on screen. I think RN would have done him better justice. (And the filmmakers just got the eyeball thing so wrong; it looks like a child's toy eye-patch in the movie, nothing like it's described in the book.)
Alan Rickman is unalterably Snape in my mind; I can't even begin to picture anyone else in the role (and it's because of him that I ever got interested in Harry Potter at all) ... I also read that he was J.K. Rowling's first casting choice for the role, so maybe she had him in her mind too while writing the character!
Hagrid I could see him as; Dumbledore not so much. Lucius Malfoy? Well, I'm sure he could play the role without any trouble (he was similarly cold and calculating as Clive Riordan), but I just can't picture a pale, blond, long-haired Robert Newton!
