Other than my moderating this board and having to approve each message that's posted (meaning you have to wait up to 24 hours to see your posting appear)--i.e., the current system--there's also the option of requiring a login before you can post. This would mean you'd have to register and remember a password, but your postings would appear immediately, requiring no intervention from a moderator. Please reply here and let me know which system you'd prefer, and based on your feedback, I'll make a decision one way or the other by ... oh, say, June 1? :-) Thanks for your help!

I supose logging in would be better if a discussion was going back and forth on the chatboard. That way the messages could be seen right away. However, it could discourage new participants from posting. This method would also be easier for you, Susan, because you would not be required to check every 24 hours for new messages. That can become a burden after awhile. However, I really don't mind waiting the 24 hours but I guess my vote would have to be for the log in method.
On another note, I purchased the DVD 'Farewell Again' from eBay the other day (It hasn't arrived yet). I was wondering if anyone has seen this movie? I have never seen it offered anywhere and I believe that the dvd is probably a copy from a tape. But I figured that is the only way I will ever get to see it. So I just added another RN film to my collection. Any comments on the film?

I vote for passwords because a spam entry still moves
that topic to the top of the board.

Since it seems "most" of you (well, three of you ... plus moi!) either vote for passwords or don't care either way, and because I agree with Chuck that the spam is not only annoying in its content but because it causes old messages so that they move to the top of the forum without having a valid new posting attached to it, added to the fact that there aren't that many people posting anyway, I've decided to go with requiring a password in order to post to the forum. (The guestbook is still open to casual passersby ... and still requires approval of posts.)

So, effective immediately, please use the "Contact Forum Admin" link at the top of the forum to get your password and begin posting without the hassle of having to wait for your post to be approved before it appears! I look forward to the discussion among serious fans picking up again soon!

I'm trying out my password for the 1st time. I think
the new format of the board is an improvement, it's
easier to see all the topics.

Sadly, since I instituted the password requirement for posting, only a few diehard fans have continued to participate in the discussion here, causing me to continue pondering other solutions to the spam problem. Alas, the capabilities of this board system are relatively limited; however, I've found another system that would allow you to create your own login account (eliminating the need to contact me to get a password and also giving you access to all the other boards on various subjects on that system). It has many other features as well, for example letting you use an avatar as part of your identity and smiley icons within your message, as well as create a blog and a user profile, etc. etc. etc. I've gone ahead and set one up for Robert Newton for you to check out and see what you think:

brobertnewton.runboard.com

Please let me know which system you prefer (and why)! Thanks!

Since nobody has used the Runboard message board since I first created it in November, do I take it that you all prefer this one? (It has a number of advantages over this one, a major one being that you can create your own login account and don't need to contact me to be assigned a password. Another nice feature is you can use avatars, which, in case you're not familiar with them, are little pictures that identify you. Also, you have the option to create a profile about yourself for people to view. *And* you can edit your own posts after you've submitted them. It also allows for better organization that this one, with major topic divisions and subtopics within them, while important topics can be made "sticky"--that is, they remain at the top in spite of newer postings in other topics.)

If you've been lurking around this board but haven't posted anything because of the password requirement (or even if you're content with this board), please check the new one out and see what you think of it. If no one posts anything on the new board in the new couple of months I'll probably just delete it.

That URL again:

brobertnewton.runboard.com

(Not too hard to remember, right? ... except for that "b" at the beginning--all their boards start with a "b" like that! Maybe I should have just named it "bobnewton" ... or, rather "obnewton"!)

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you think, Trisha. Also, for anybody who doesn't have a password for this board, everyone can express their preference at the "voting booth": http://www.mooncove.com/newton/vote.htm Thanks!
