Hey, someone finally posted a fanvid of Robert Newton on YouTube ... it's a tribute to Long John Silver, and it's really awesome. Check it out here:

Kitty, the girl who made it, also gave me permission to post it on the site, so I've embedded it on the Inspirations page. (Thanks to Chuck for finding it!)

Just a reminder that tomorrow would have been Robert Newton's 102nd birthday. To celebrate, if you're in the UK, you can catch the Long John Silver movie on Life that very day (and the next day and the next day ...).
Meanwhile back in the States, for those of you who've been having trouble finding the 1954 version of "The Beachcomber," good news: It's airing on TCM at midnight on (technically) Sunday, June 10, but most of us would probably consider that still Saturday night (the 9th). Sooner or later all these things come around again! (Almost makes up for the dearth of other RN movies this month.)
BTW, all you folks who've voted in the poll to keep this minimalist message board going ... why aren't you posting? (If you need a password or forgot yours, just e-mail me.) :-)

Just noticed that Jamaica Inn will be shown on TCM (US) at 6:15 Eastern time--it's listed at 105 minutes. I wonder if that's because it'll be a more complete version than the 98-minute one we've been discussing or if the extra time will be taken up by trivia from Robert Osborne. Tune in and see!

For any of you lucky enough to live near London, the BFI is doing a centennial celebration for Laurence Olivier during the month of August (why didn't RN get one of those? I suppose you have to have a "Sir" in front of your name or something), and they'll be showing "Fire Over England" and "Henry V" on the big screen. Here's the schedule:
(Sorry I haven't been around much the last couple of weeks; I haven't been well, but I'm glad to see so much discussion in my absence! Great to have you all here!)
