Here's a topic to go along with the new poll question, "Which role first captured your attention and/or made you a fan of Robert Newton?" First, for statistical purposes, please vote for your choice at www.mooncove.com/newton/vote.htm (while this poll is still active, which it should be for at least the next six months--if not, this discussion topic will remain active, so you can still give your answer here). Then feel free to elaborate on your answer here. What first impressed you about Robert Newton in this role? What did you especially like about him or his performance? And, if you chose "Other," which role was it?

Unfortunately, Bravenet only gave me room to list ten choices, so I tried to pick the most popular, based on previous polls. And I combined all his pirate roles into one to save space. So there should be plenty of room for discussion here! :-)

After I posted this, my husband had a better idea, so I altered the poll choices a little, quick before anybody had a chance to answer. (Whew, I made it! I know you were all clamoring to reply! ;-)) He was curious, based on the discussion so far, whether more people first saw him as Long John Silver or Blackbeard. (I think he wants to see a showdown! Arr! A bloody sea battle betwixt the infamous captains! Just remember to keep it friendly. ;-)) Also I realized that combining Blackbeard and Long John Silver would probably skew the results too heavily. (I was originally thinking that it would allow me to list more other choices--some statistician I'd make, huh?) But there's room for *anything* in the "Other" category; who knows, maybe that one'll beat out both Blackbeard and LJS! Should be interesting. I'm really looking forward to reading all the details here! (I still lumped all the Long John Silver roles together though; otherwise, the pirate roles would have taken up four of the ten slots!)
