Warning: If you haven't seen the movie/credits yet and don't want to know what happens beforehand, skip over this message!

***********

Yes, it starts with a shot of Captain Barbossa lying dead on top of the treasure. The camera pans back, and you see the monkey swimming through the water towards what you assume is his master ... But as he emerges from the water, he greedily grabs a piece of the treasure ... and turns back into a skeleton, presumably reinstating the curse. Then he turns to the camera and, opening his mouth to reveal his sharp fangs, lunges at us ... and all goes dark. Really cool.

I was glad they added the extra scene because, as the credits started to roll, I had been wondering what had happened to the monkey. Of course, you saw him fall overboard during last battle, but that didn't *necessarily* mean he drowned! His "death" seemed a little anticlimactic, but I thought it was just an oversight until the surprise ending came on.

Of course, now I'm dying to see the sequel to find out how they're going to bring Barbossa back, cuz I'm going to be really upset if they don't! Geoffrey Rush was really the best part of the movie for me. (Unfortunately, it seems logical that, if he was killed while the curse was off, he would stay dead. But I hope the Disney magicians will find a way around that!)

Anyway, the moral of the story is always watch the credits! :-) Quite a few movies tack on extras at the end. Austin Powers and Time Bandits also come to mind as good examples of that. (Not only that, but you get to see who played whom, who did the music, where it was filmed, etc.) I can't imagine not watching credits. In fact, I get really angry when I'm watching something on TV and they squish the credits to the side so you can't even read them while they run a commercial for some other show ... while the announcer talks over the theme music. Arrrrr!

Just thought of another one you may have missed if you left before the credits were over ... Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. (Had you been wondering whatever became of Kenneth Branagh's character??)
