Subject: Re: Band Literature

During my senior year of high school, I played a number of songs in band that I thought were excellent pieces, but only one of them stands out above the rest. James Barnes' "Fantasy Variations" is one of the best pieces for band literature in my opinion. It's on the group one listing and quite a challenge, but it's worth the effort. "Fatnasy" is based on a theme by Paganini with 25 variations that feature every section. Performed at its best, this dramatic piece can only leave the listener with a sense of sheer awe. (in case ya can't tell, I love it) James Barnes' "Fantasy Variations" would definately be something to add to your library.
