As a music educator, it would probably be a good idea and a very useful tool to become a member of MENC (Music Educators National Conference) http://www.menc.org , as well as your state’s music education association such as OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) http://www.omea-ohio.org/ . Along with membership to these organizations, you will receive subscriptions and other benefits. Another useful tool would be to subscribe to other publications like The Instrumentalist (http://www.instrumentalistmagazine.com/) if you plan on teaching instrumental ensembles, or a choral directors publication for choral ensembles. These journals have a number of useful articles for music teachers and music teachers in training.

I hope this information is helpful in finding the answer to your question.

Sincerely,
Frank Calhoun

My next question is... Do MENC and OMEA provide legal protection like the AFT and the NEA do? I'm still confused! :(
